(CNSNews.com) - Very few communities refuse federal funding, but it may happen tonight in a conservative corner of Kentucky, where pro-life sentiment is very strong. The Northern Kentucky Independent District Health Board is debating whether to refuse Title X funding, federal taxpayer dollars that are used, in part, to pay for contraception for poor women. Northern Kentucky Right to Life is running newspaper advertisements that say certain contraceptives - IUD, the pill, the morning-after pill, Norplant - cause abortions, because they may prevent fertilized eggs from implanting in the womb. Wire services quote the group's president, Robert Cetrulo, as saying that those contraceptives are "bad morals, bad medicine, and bad public policy that should not be distributed to the public with taxpayers' dollars." Pro-life groups say if the Kentucky Independent District Health Board does reject federal funding, it would serve as an excellent example for other pro-life communities. According to wire reports, pro-abortion spokespeople condemn the Kentucky campaign as an extremist, anti-choice agenda. The Kentucky Independent District Health Board is expected to vote on Title X funding tonight.
