SAN DIEGO, CA - The City of La Mesa is asking businesses near a smoldering trash fire to evacuate the area. The fire started early Thursday morning at the Edco Recycling Center, 8184 Commercial Street. Officials are planning a more aggressive attack of the fire and expect that to produce more smoke. The heaviest smoke is east of the actual fire location. An evacuation Center is being set up at the La Mesa Community Center. Residents in the surrounding areas are also asked to evacuate.

If the "trash" burning is stuff to be "recycled", it could be a concern about plastics, like bottles, burning.

LOL!

Reminds of all the old beaters driving around my town (eco-wacko capitol of the universe) with environmentalist bumper stickers plastered all over them ("the earth is your mother"). To a one, they belch out rancid exhaust fumes and are practically falling apart on the road!

Well, if its just paper and plastic bottles and such, why the evacuation?

All that kind of household garbage burns for hours in American cities every day.

Perhaps they think the terrorists are using this fire as a vector for some bio-chem??
