We humbly bow before You, Lord, to give You thanks for the blessings of this week and the hope that we have for our nation because of You. What a wonderful gift You have given us in prayer, Father. You bid us to pray so that we may unleash the mighty forces of Your power and bring to earth Your tremendous resources in answer to our prayers. We have seen the fruit of our prayer labors, and we thank You for hearing the supplications of Your remnant. We thank You for all that You have done, all that You are doing, and all that You will do for this nation and its leaders. O Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!
We seek Your forgiveness on behalf of our country, Father. We have seen the warping of values, the disparagement of authority, the trampling of the Constitution , the persecution of the Church, and the divisiveness of multiculturalism over the past several years. We have stood by as 34 million babies have been slaughtered as we have promoted the selfishness of a people entrenched in individual rights. We have tolerated alarming increases in child abuse. We have allowed our schools to expel You. Forgive us, Merciful Father, for these and so many other offenses.
Father, we especially seek Your guidance that we may eliminate the culture of death in this nation and so that a culture of life may be restored. Father, so many lies surround the abortion debate. One of satan’s favorites is that women should have the right to do what they wish with their own body. Yet we know, Lord, that the fetus is not truly a part of the woman’s body. It is a separate body, growing its own cells, with sets of chromosomes and genes totally separate from that of the mother. You created the baby to produce its own placenta, its own blood supply and to be a separate organism, living within the mother. Open the eyes of the people of this nation, Lord, that they may be able to discern the lies of the devil. Give us the wisdom we need in order to refute the enemy’s arguments. Guide us back to You, Father, so that we may be responsive to Your perfect will for this nation and so that every child that is conceived will be given the opportunity to experience life outside the womb.
You have promised to give us wisdom when we seek it from You. We pray for wisdom for President Bush and his advisors as they contemplate the appropriate actions for Israel and Palestine. Father, many of us believe a Palestinian state is a mistake. If this is not Your will, please cause President Bush to retract his recommendation and to pursue the course You want him to pursue. If he is truly acting in Your will, help him to have a sense of peace over his decision. Give him the strength and courage he needs to face the challenges of the week. Guard him from the plots and schemes of those who seek his ruin. Replenish him when he needs to be restored, and help him to know that he can do all things through You, Mighty God, who strengthens him.
Father, we pray that You would touch the hearts of new prayer warriors today. Stir up the desire for prayer among those who seek Your will for this nation and for President Bush. Remind us that we have not because we ask not. We know that You are the God who loves to give good gifts to His children. We praise You for Your faithfulness and for Your unfailing love. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
