The dems tried to smear the other side when Enron hit the fan. Sometimes those tactics can backfire. The funny thing is that, unless a politician is asked to do something as a quid-pro-quo for a donation, there really is nothing blameworthy going on. If a guy drops a hundred bucks into the church collection plate, is the priest supposed to do a Dun and Bradstreet on the guy to see if the money was obtained in a drug deal or via prostitution? A few thousand bucks from Enron or Worldcom to a politician raising millions is a drop in the bucket. Now, the Buddhist Temple and the Lincoln Bedroom--that's a scandal!
