I have a feeling there is more to this story. And, there is more to the story of AOL and their being in bed with a number of government officials and agencies in the DC area. The company grew up right here in the Northern Virginia suburbs.

WHY would a Congressman need all of these LOANS...(ha-ha)....WAY MORE to this than what s written. There's always more to any story written about Jim Moran.

Moran's dirty. If we have a decent candidate, maybe we can pick up the seat...

The story as written is incoherent.
I don't understand what Moran's cash flows looked like, and I don't understand how the loan fit in. This reporter should really try to find another job--like dog-catching or garbage collection.

I believe he has (had?) a young child with cancer - brain cancer, I think. She had quite a bit of experimental treatment and the family was desperately trying any measure to save her.

You have any thoughts on this.
To: Fracas
Thanks. I had not heard about his child. I know he has had serious marital problems recently.

Hi Newbie!! Thanks for the info. Are you a constiuent of jhis? We have heard many times about his HUGE TEMPER TANTRUMS...fill us in!!
I would think that if this money was going for a sick child's cancer treatment, the article would ay that or HE would be shouting that from the ooftops...and yet not a peep.
DO fill us in on the dirty Moran though...thannks.

I'd love to know what stocks the dear boy's been making money on lately. Wonder if any of them were in the news, if you get my drift...

"The loan was paid back early because the congressman had made some money on [stock] options"I'd be very interested to know what options Moron has been trading.
It seems improbable that with his notorious financial mismanagement he's been able to maintain a brokerage account and to make a gain of ~$75,000 in the options market (which is generally played in the short term, incurring ~40 percent capital gains).
It also seems unlikely that Moron was trading puts on Northern VA tech companies (most of which have been in the dumpster for that last two years). If he was trading calls, he must have caught a real doozey of a winner.
This story does not pass the smell test (though with Moron, not much does). I agree with cgbg that the story is incompetently reported. It focuses on the loan, and not how it was paid.
To paraphrase Churchill, everything about Moron is a lie wrapped in a deception inside an evasion.

focuses on the loan, not how it was repaid...No coinky-dink, I'm sure...
Now, the question is why the slant needed to changed. Hope there's some enquiring journo out there willing to ask some tough questions...

Did you know in his 'other life' he was a stockbroker?????
Thanks, but I'm not a 'newbie'. I've been a Freeper for more than 4 years under another name. I re-located and was off line for a while; registered under a new name that I chose (rather than selected at random).
I don't live in Moran's district, but I spend lots of time in D.C. on business. He is reputed to have a 'more than horrible' temper. You might remember an incident with a car a few years ago - the details are fuzzy, but it caused quite a stir.

About two years ago, Moran was going into an elementary school on some business, I think that on his way out of the school, he saw an eight-year-old black boy messing with his car in a manner that made Moran suspicious. Moran confronted the boy and I think he pulled him away from his car. Anyway, the boy and his mother cried racism. Moran said the boy was trying to carjack him. I don't remember the outcome of this little fracas, Fracas but it sounded funny when reported on the radio. Both participants had questionable versions of the story.

LOL - good play on my screen name, Ralph. I chose Fracas because it's the name of my perfume, but the other meaning is very apropos.
Thanks for the clarification about the car episode. Moran used to be on Chris Matthews show a lot during impeachment and leading up to the 2000 election (I think he may be Matthews Congressional Rep.), and he glossed over this incident.

Jim Moran has never been shy about using his daughter's cancer for his benefit. A few years back when she first got sick a two or three full page article about her condition appeared in the Washington Post. This was the same little girl who witnessed Moran strike her mother and who called the police to the Moran home. Jim Moran has always said that the child misunderstood but Mrs. Moran not only left him but got a divorce soon after. Jim Moran is the prince of Alexandria. He is either loved or feared by every powerbroker in town. He could have walked into any bank in the city and walked out with a generous loan. Why did he need the cash and why did he go AOL?
To: thathamiltonwoman
Excellent questions. Wouldn't it be interesting to see his client list from the brokerage firm - and note that the firm is not named in this article.
