Eight former and current Modesto police officers refused to testify during a hearing for a central figure in the Police Department's gun-sale scandal of the late 1990s, according to a court document.

Their silence played a critical role in an arbitrator's April 30 decision ordering Carol Mosconi reinstated as the department's records manager.

Another case of fraud and corruption in which law enforcement, once again, demonstrates that there are two sets of laws in California: one for "officials" and one for the rest of the peasents. I guess gun laws are only for the great unwashed. This is the kind of crap that erodes respect for the rule of law. Ultimately, there will be no rule of law if this crap keeps up. Also, note that the article refers to this debacle as an "infraction" when in fact several state and federal FELONIES were committed. I don't know if officer Condit is related to that "other guy". Also note that the California DOJ also committed an "infraction" by not enforcing it own regulations regarding firearm transfers among police. The whole thing is just a stinking pile of manure.

Burl is Gary's older brother, and by most accounts, the smarter of the two.

"These witnesses are former Capt. David Leonardo, Sgt. Burl Condit, police officers Clint Raymer, Ron Cloward, Dave Sundy, Mark Weiglein, Art Garza, and union representative Paul Konsdorf."

Yes, he's Gary Condit's sleazeball brother.

Burl retired unceremoneously in Dec. Not a single mention in the local press at the time.

As an aside, Burl's son, Buck, is a deputy sheriff in Stanislaus County. He was involved in an auto accident while chasing a bad guy early Sunday morning. Speeds were up to 90+ MPH, the bad guy cut through a field and Buck followed. His cruiser encountered an irrigation cement block. He suffered minor bruises to body and ego. The bad guy was apprehended by other officers joining in the chase.

I have it on good authority that Buck is the only "normal" individual and heck of a nice guy in the entire clan.
