Pledge Banner Michael Newdow's Daughter a Christian
Chuck Smith, Calvary Chapel

Posted on 07/01/2002 12:34:51 PM PDT by SkunkPunk

Last night I attended Calvary Chapel in Fountain Valley, home of Pastor Chuck Smith, founder of the original Calvary Chapel. He told us that Michael Newdow's daughter is a born again Christian and attends a Calvary Christian school. Mr. Newdow was the atheist who brought the Pledge of Allegiance ban lawsuit to court claiming his daughter's rights were violated because of a reference to God in the pledge. Chuck Smith was told of this through a sister Calvary Chapel and got a hold of his contacts in the media. The daughter will now appear on the Today show later this week to denounce her fathers lawsuit. Calvary will release this information to the press later today.

He is using his daughter as a pawn to further his own atheistic agenda.

The closest Calvary Christian School to Elk Grove is about 50 miles away. I'm quite certain they wouldn't attend...for the drive alone.

It *is* my understanding that the child attends public school here in Elk Grove.

Sent to Hannity ... they have the story already. Not surprising this couple is separated.

Not a rule. More like "FRetiquette."

When someone registers and posts on the same day the assumption is they are simply someone who's been here for some time, and posting drivel under another nick. Maybe as a joke, maybe as FUD, whatever.

Could it be that Newdow wanted his daughter to worship him instead of God? So, he does this as a way to get back at her and her mother.

Can you say sicko!

God makes children perfect?

I assume you're being sarcastic? Children are certainly NOT perfect. And they need their savior. I've known children as young as three to realize this.

Thanks, I sorta figured that. This court is just a step below the SCOTUS, and it takes from six months to two years for cases to go from the Circuit to SCOTUS. That means that such cases have usually been around two to four years or more by the time they get to the Circuit.

Sure, they may be able to memorize Bible verses, etc. but all they are doing is regurgitation what they hear...

Actually, you are correct in the memorization statement. Young children have a simple time when taught to do these things.

However, there are 'some' children [such as mine], who have choosen to dedicate their lives to Christ once they read, understand, and apply His teachings to their lives.

If the couple is seperated that means that they are married though not living together. The jerkwad in question would therefore not be a SINGLE dad, but a dad or seperated dad. To be a SINGLE dad would indicate that he had never been married.

Words mean things, I would like to know what the real story is and why reporters can get it right.

Just got off the phone with a budy who was also at Calvary last night and headr Chuck speak. Sorry, guess I goofed...She goes to a Calvary Christian Church, not school. To me, that's not really important. Just wanted to get the news out to you Freepers before it hits the press, although it sounds like it already has.

Like the mom isn't using the daughter to further her personal agenda?

This girl is 8-10 years old, depending on which source you read. Either way, certainly not old enough to form her own opinion about religion, probably one of the most complex philosophical meanderings of the human mind. Whatever she says is just a product of indoctrination, be it by Mom, Dad, school, whatever.

In the end, I feel sorry for the daughter, but don't think Mom is some saint just because she is Christian and she doesn't like her husband. She is just as guilty of manipulating her daughter as the dad is.

I don't care about what children can and can't do at whatever age. I'm just saying this rumor doesn't pass the sniff test. The girl WAS in public school, now she's in Christian school? And she's in the second grade, STILL? There's just a lot of inconsistency, and these sorts of things that go "someone told me that someone he knows told him..." are bogus about 90% of the time.

Add to that the "newbie poster" phenomenon and it just looks like someone trying to see what they can get started, just for a laugh.

On FR, if you learn nothing else you learn to be HIGHLY SKEPTICAL and not to pander to your own prejudices and predilections.

Agreed. I'm always skeptical about what I read, especially if it's not verified. I did hear the doctor say that his daughter did not disagree with saying the pledge, but that's all that he said. That's a long way from her being in a Christian school.

I am extremely confused? Does he have another daughter that is older?

Was this girl in 2nd grade at the time of the lawsuit's beginning and is now older?

I need more info here......this is very odd.

Born again simply means you have become a Christian.

Yes. Without a saving faith in the atonement of Jesus Christ, all of us are lost. And He particularly welcomes the wee ones IMHO.

When my oldest son was younger he had a terrible temper. Once in the third grade I saw him going across the street with a chain from his swing set. One of the neighbor kids had made him mad and he intended to beat the kid with the chain. (Thank God I happened to catch him!) He still goes by the nickname Link to this day. Trust me. He was a sinner, even at that age.

BTW, Born Again and Saved are synonymous according to the Bible. Baptism comes after.
