Go figure. I wonder who in the Mormon DC gang was pushing for this?

It was probably because he helped set up a large name data file.

The feds are in the stone age.

This might come as a surprise to you, but it is quite likely this guy was hired because of what he's DONE, not who he knows.

Nonsense. He was chosen because he has skills and experiences that the FBI desperately NEEDS, namely, information systems. It just so happens the LDS Church's proprietary information system is recognized as one of the best, if not the best, in the world whereas the FBI's couldn't even allow its agents to access the Internet (remember the hoopla around Zechariah Moussaui's computer?).

I've heard the LDS Church is willing to let the FBI copy its information system without charging the hundreds of millions of dollars needed to develop an identical system, but the FBI will still need someone to manage the transition/implementation. Who better than the person who managed the system for the LDS Church?

Frankly, I'm surprised the LDS Church is letting the FBI raid its top information manager.

"Go figure. I wonder who in the Mormon DC gang was pushing for this?"

Not me. I don't even claim membership in the "Mormon DC gang," as it were. 8~)

But, seriously, Darwin John already has "earned his bones" by modernizing and greatly expasnding the IT infrastructure of an exponentially-growing international religious organization that encompasses a complex leadership hierarchy; the world's largest family history (genealogy) repository and ongoing program; and more than 100 operating temples and thousands of other church buildings and over 11 million members worldwide.

John clearly needed no "pull" from within the Federal government, but he will be in good company, given that the FBI is home to a disproportionate number of his fellow members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I take comfort in knowing that a man of his widely-recognized ability and good character will be in charge of that which easily could become a bad genie struggling to escape from a magic lamp.....
