"What they suspect"? Either it is or it isn't, how could there be any doubt - what an irritatingly stupid statement.

They apparently don't know whether the girls depicted are "children" or not. If he has an archive of Kate Moss pictures on the machine, it could be hard to tell...

Well, they have found nude pictures of females on the computer. The girls look too young to be 18, therefore it is suspected that it is child pornography. If the girls pictured are identified and found to be under 18, then it is child pornography as defined by the law.

Because they can't be certain at first glance that they are underage. This makes this guy likely a "pederast," one who prefers adolescent children.
