I didn't want him to be detained or formally arrested. I wanted him to be brought in for questioning, shown the positive evidence, trip over a box and accidently fall on a dagger that was mistakenly sitting on the floor in an upright position.

You got it wrong. First his balls should be sliced off and then he should fall on the dagger knowing he is ball-less.
