First twins Barbara and Jenna Bush apparently learned little from their scrape last year with Texas lawmen, who were called by the Bush-hating manager at an Austin Tex Mex restaurant who spotted the underage duo ordering Margaritas with fake ID.
They've been luckier this summer but not a whole lot more careful, according to a source at one Arlington, Va., pub not far from the White House.
The bar, Iota's, was carding very thoroughly one recent Thursday night, so the presidential twins' "fake IDs must be sweet," the source tells the magazine Washingtonian Online.
"When a bartender recognized the twins, he took their beers away," the e-zine reports. "But the twins still stuck around."
The Bush girls, who turn legal later this year, reportedly visited the bar with "a pack of pals" to see a folk band called Brown Couch, whose guitarist attends Yale with Barbara.
Karenna Schiff, oldest daughter and closest adviser to Al Gore, smoked cannabis, drank heavily and, when drunk, once encouraged a friend to drive her father's car without a licence, it emerged last week.
One of the Gore daughters was once accosted by police in Chevy Chase, Md., for underage drinking -- she tried the don't-you-know-who-I-am argument -- but the story was largely suppressed. Albert Gore III was summarily dismissed from St. Alban's School (his father's alma mater) for reasons that have never been publicly explained, and just last summer, young Albert III was charged in North Carolina with driving 97 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.[Rumor is he was caught smoking pot...see below]
During the interview, Tipper Gore voluntarily brought up some difficult, highly publicized problems she'd had with her own children, most memorably the time one of her underage daughters was accused of drinking in public and mouthing off to the cops. Shortly after conducting the interview, but before it ran, the magazine got a furious call from one of the vice president's people, screaming that if any of the sensitive material saw print, the magazine would not only be disinvited to the kids conference, but would never again have access to any White House or administration figures.
In the discussion that followed, I brought up widely circulated--and in England, published--stories about the vice president's son being caught using drugs in 1996 and suspended from school as a result. (Tipper had somehow failed to mention that difficulty during her interview.) As James Adams put it in an October 13, 1996, London Times story, "Reporters all knew...that Albert Gore III, the 13-year-old son of the vice-president, had been suspended from school earlier this year for smoking marijuana. A tearful phone call by Gore to senior editors [at The Washington Post] ensured the story was never published."

What makes you think that? From all accounts Barbara never straightened out G.W., he straightened himself out, albeit somewhat later in life.
Did they wave their Secret Service detail away? I'd think that they had adult supervision. I'd also think that it would be difficult to travel without their guardians being spotted.
You can't just write off this kind of foolishness to "being a kid." They know that the whole world's watching and they don't care enough about their mother and father to behave. They're just plain selfish.
The question is why? I suspect that it has something to do with the way they were raised by their mother. Laura identifies herself as "pro-choice" which renders her judgement in general to be suspect.

This place used to have people who mistrusted everything in the press, and who would dissect articles. Apparently now any 3rd-rate scandal mag can print whatever rumor they want, and people take off on a tangent like it is the gospel truth.

Ditto. Chelsea has, for the most part, behaved herself -- it's not that hard. Continuing to be a disgrace and a constant source of aggravation to your public parents is difficult, but the twins manage to do it again and again.
Can anyone remember Presidential children who were brattier than Jenna and Barbara? If you do, you will have to remember before Roosevelt!

In the mid-60s in Connecticut, drinking age was 21. The bars in New Haven were pretty careful, but college parties tended to be pretty boozy with no attempts to stop the drinking.......
These are not things I learned from reading a book.
Bush Twins vs. Chelsea Clinton?
It's stupid for people to project the Clinton Vs. Bush debate upon their children. They don't have a dang thing to do with their parents politics. I don't care what little Chelsea does or what the Bush Twins drink. They are private citizens and the Idiots who buy/read sensationalist media are.......well Idiots.

It is just as likely that Jenna has been on her best behavior and has done nothing except go to see a friend play in a band, whereupon a Rat sympathizer concocted a story and phoned it in. We see no evidence, simply gossip.
