TRENTON -- Gov. McGreevey relied on exaggerated anti-terrorism credentials to justify hiring a 33-year-old Israeli national, Golan Cipel, as a highly paid adviser, a Gannett New Jersey investigation revealed.
The overstated credentials of Cipel, a low-level officer in the Israeli reserves who worked in public relations at the Israeli Consulate in New York, add to a series of questions that have been raised since McGreevey hired the Israeli citizen early this year for a $110,000-a-year post in the governor's office.

But quite frankly, I'm impressed that all the Gannett papers in NJ (including The Asbury Park Press, Courier News, Home News Tribune and others) had this on the front page top. It's nice to see the forth estate doing something that they should be doing for a change. The Newark (red)Star Ledger would never take it's light criticism of the governor this far.
Kudos Gannett. Keep it up.
No skin off my nose; but,using Taxpayer monies for this purpose is going kinda far-even for NJ !
I posted some pre-campaign rumors from someone in the know at Schundlers camp about McSleezy and I got roasted here.
Amazing that the paper investigated this, let alone published it. What's up with that? You don't think the Jersey press is getting with the program, do you. Nah, me either. The editor must be on summer vacation.
