Nevada voters are evenly split on a ballot initiative that would legalize adult possession of 3 ounces or less of marijuana, a new poll shows.
But in Reno and Washoe County, a clear majority of residents oppose the legalization of small amounts of marijuana, according to a Reno Gazette-Journal/News 4 poll. The poll of 600 likely voters was conducted in July by Rockville, Md.-based Research 2000.

Excellent! I hope this passes. I personally dislike the effect of pot rather intensely - from the half dozen or so times I've tried it - but that's altogether besides the point. There's no rational reason why pot should be regulated any different than alcohol. None whatsoever. And even if there were, there's no reason why the Feds should tell the states how they deal with substance use issues.

My attitude is that I dont like drugs, period, Morrin said. If they legalize 3 ounces, then theyre going to carry 3 ounces all the time. That's about the dumbest comment I've heard all day. I can go into a liquor store and buy eight cases of beer, but I'm not going to carry it around with me everywhere.

Methodology alert: Ask "Would you make X legal?" and you have a built-in bias where people are afraid to admit they either break the law now or do not support law enforcement. NV will make MJ legal.

Half of the people wanting to arrest the other half of the people..... man, the drug war nazis are gonna be busy

And theyre going to have to give a real compelling reason why they want 3 ounces of marijuana made legal, he added. Shouldn't it be the other way around? I don't think many people could give a really compelling reason why most of the things they do should be legal, if that's to be the standard.

Washoe County District Attorney Richard Gammick, who strongly opposes the measure, expected the issue to have more support in Clark County than the rest of Nevada. I expect conservatism runs a little more rampant in Washoe County and the cow counties than in Clark County
You wouldnt know conservatism if it kicked down your door and shot you in bed.

I expect conservatism runs a little more rampant in Washoe County Maybe, but I don't agree that prohibition is a conservative stance.
put Nevada in conflict with federal law
Perish the thought!

Parties aren't much fun with a hernia. It's just a figure of speech. You don't really carry eight cases of beer around with you. That's what sidecars are for.

The walls are tottering. The lies are coming home to roost. The End is near.
What will all the jackboots do now? Guess they can go be official kidnappers for North Korea or somewhere similar they'd feel at home.

Sidecar? Hell, man, I stripped all the chrome off my bike just to save a little weight. Just kidding, I don't really have a motorcycle. The State of Indiana considers me unsuitable for such a privilege.

If Nevadans are "evenly split," let's just legalize roaches instead of the whole thing.....

The State of Indiana considers me unsuitable for such a privilege. You should find a state that appreciates you more. Motorcycles are good for the soul. You should try one sometime.

C'mon Nevadans.....it is HIGH time that someone, anyone, stands up for their Constitutional right to govern themselves, takes the 9th & 10th Amendments seriously, & tells the federal government to shove it up their.....well, you know. To hell w/ the drug warriors--they can go to Singapore or Saudi Arabia if they wanna live in a society where responsible drug users are given cruel & unusual punishment (ya hear that Bob Barr?????).

Nevada voters are evenly split on a ballot initiative... Overheard many moons ago at Oxford, "Either smoke, or get off the pot."

...and put Nevada in conflict with federal law. That'd be the same federal law that's shoving Yucca Mountain down your throats.
