A Squirrel Hill lawyer has accused Allegheny County Coroner Dr. Cyril H. Wecht of bumping him with his car and then punching and threatening him during a confrontation along Darlington Road, a city police report states.

Nat Cohen, 44, told police he was not injured in the incident Saturday afternoon and that he did not want to press charges against Wecht. Cohen, who told police he was angry because Wecht was driving too fast, could not be reached for comment Monday.

I saw this on Fox53 last night. Wecht, for all his self-proclaimed brilliance, is a strange person. I encountered him - and his entire family, children, grandkids, etc. - at the Norfolk airport a few months ago. We ended up on the same flight back to Pgh. They acted like they owned the airline.

Funny you should say that. A caller to KDKA's Honsberger show just said the Arlen Specter has an 8mm home recording of the whole incident. Specter says it is clear that only one bullet, I mean, punch was thrown.

Cohen told police that the incident occurred about 2:15 p.m. Saturday as he was walking with two small children near his home. ......................................(snip)

Wecht said if Cohen did yell at him on Saturday, he could not hear him because he was driving with the windows up, the radio on and the air conditioner running.

Who knows what happened. Wecht has an ego bigger than the US Steel building and it's easy to think that he feels he is above the law. But I will say this. On Saturday afternoon, the temps were well over 90 and the heat index was over 100, so it is likely that he had his windows up and the AC on full blast. It could be that this Cohen guy is one of those self-appointed enforcers who wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between 15 and 50. I have had one of them on my street goof on me a few times, and I never speed on residential streets. When I would see this woman out, I would watch my speedometer very closely as I went up the hill, kept it well under 25, and still had a goofy b***h holler at me for "going too fast". She was just a nut case.

Cohen told officers he filed the police report because he doesn't know what Wecht meant by the threat.

Well, it's pretty obvious that it was just Cyril's way of calling Cohen a "jagoff" and to take-a-hike.

But if the stupid lawyer insists on playing stupid, he may find out, much to his chagrin, that the coroner has been around town a little longer than he.

Wecht is a bit of an oddball, but the man obviously does have friends in Allegheny County. Friends who are so subtle that Cohen will simply begin to believe that he's using the wrong deoderant.

It's kind of hard to beleive that Wecht has any friends, but I'm sure there are a lot of people who owe him favors. ;~))

Wecht and Henry Lee both run off at the mouth about things I believe are way beyond their particular areas of expertise, but who's going to question them? They're renowned forensic pathologists, after all. These "rent an experts" on the news shows are getting out of hand - they have opinions on everything. (And don't even get me started on Mark Geragos).

All anyone needs to know about Wecht is that he appeared on the famous Fox Alien Autopsy show and offered his expert testimony that the brain and abdominal structure of the supposed alien was like no human structures he'd ever seen. Oh, and that when he ran for county commissioner a few years ago, he brought in Johnny Cochran to campaign for him.

Well, I suppose you could look at it that way too.
Just the same, I don't think Wecht is gonna have to call-in any of those markers.
With this publicity, IMHO, Cohen is just gonna find himself to be an "outsider" in Allegheny County.
Nothing overtly hostile, just that influential people are gonna begin to avoid and ignore him.

And thank God he did, it cost him the election. ANd it was not for County Commissioner - we got rid of those, the good (wacky) doctor lost the race to become the first County Executive in our new form of government.

There is no doubt Wecht is a smart guy. But his ego is the size of the Civic (er - Mellon) Arena. Remember a few years ago when someone wrote to the Post Gazette criticizing Wecht for something, and he fired back at the author in a personal letter (reprinted in the PG) on official letterhead of the Coroner's office that the guy was an a#@hole and used other profanities. Me thinks he a bit nuts.
