Dead Squirrel Painted By Road Crews - Resident Sees It As 'Uncaring' (Ohio)

CLEVELAND -- A photo in the Akron Beacon Journal shows a dead squirrel painted over by a road crew, NewsChannel5 reported.

The incident happened on Riverview Road in the Valley.

"I think that's kind of tacky, kind of uncaring, too," said Vonceil Terrell, an Akron resident.

Janet Carter, another resident, said, "I don't think they should've gone over it. There's no way you could miss a squirrel. I think they should've picked up the squirrel before they did the road."

That's the sentiment of the city's Service Director Joe Kidder.

Kidder said the carcass should have been picked up and that not doing so was a mistake.

Just a publicity-hungry squirrel. Don't hive him the satisfaction. Move along.

They painted road kill?

Next time, I want them to try a deer. Now THAT'S a challenge.

The squirrel shouldn't have been sun-bathing in the middle of the road.

In the meantime who knows how many people were murdered in Houston today (where I live) - a little perspective puhleeze. ;-)

Blame this on unions - it's not the job of the painters to remove roadkill - says so in their contract - that's someone else's job, and he was on break... ;0)

"Hey, we's union guys. Dat ain't in our contract."

Scandalous!

Congress should immediately create a new federal Department of Squirrel Security. Also, I demand massive new regulation of squirrels, road crews and painting: 20,000 pages should do the trick.

No doubt that Vonceil (?) and Janet are solidly pro-choice...

How do you know it was dead before painting....perhaps one of those high speed painting rigs caught the squirrel in mid road.

LOL! A few weeks ago, I was driving home and noticed a dead armadillo in the median of the highway. It was not flattened out, but was on its back. Someone had stopped and placed an empty beer can between its front feet. It looked as if it got plastered and passed out drunk.

That might not be a squirrel. A skunk that got peed on would look identical.

More then likely the truth. I had the sad experience of working for a union company. I needed one of those little file box things put up outside my office for my mail.

I was told that it would take two weeks for maintenance to get around to it. I said fine I would put it up myself and asked for a drill. My boss nearly fainted. It seems it said in their contract that only maintenance was allowed to make holes in the building walls. I said fine what if I could get it to stay on the wall without making any holes in the wall. Would that be OK? He said that he guessed so.

They will never get that box off the wall. I used enough super glue to hold a house together.

This looks like most of the stuff seen in modern art galleries. Enron probably would have paid half a mil for it.
