Military Chiefs have hired 10 cargo ships to carry armoured vehicles, helicopters, ammunition, tanks, ambulances and other materials to the region.
The build up is the first clear sign of military preparations for a possible U.S. led war against Iraq. It is thought that Britain may join any attack led by its American allies.
The US Air Force is also preparing arsenals of precision guided weapons and spare parts, including airplane engines, at depots in the Middle East.
'We don't know where the next contingency might be, but we want to get this into the hands of the war fighters,' Air Force General Lester Lyles told the New York Times.
Defence Department officials said it did not mean combat was imminent, or even a certainty, but was aimed at scaring Saddam Hussein ahead of any conflict.
It is also meant to send a warning that the US has the capability to unleash retaliatory srikes if Iraq uses weapons of mass destruction.
The Defence Department has contracted Maersk Line to operate cargo ships carrying weapons which will be positioned near the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia, home of a British base used by America as a staging point.

Look Saddam! Over here!

The Defence Department has contracted Maersk Line . . . Criminey! Do they have to give out this much info? Why not just publish the departing ships schedule, too, so Saddam doesn't have to look it up?

I no longer believe a word I hear about US military buildups. It' s all disinformation. European newspapers that publish articles with detailed criticisms of the "Bush plan" are especially hilarious.
To: cabral
He will not have time to do that because
D-Day for the liberation of Iraq is September 11, 2002.
