I find it hard to believe an independent McKinney run would present a serious problem to a politician as popular as Zell Miller. It just might lead him to switch parties, however.

Either a party-switch by Zell Miller or a McKinney run would give the seat in 2004 to the GOP if we have a candidate that is not terminally stupid. The McKinney machine could very well stay home in 2002. That sinks Cleland.
