Dear Republican Activists,
It is extraordinary for a sitting State Chairman to become involved in a Republican primary. There are many good reasons why a party officer should refrain from involvement. There are also times when a State Chairman is compelled to abandon that principal of non-involvement to protect the Party. After careful deliberation, I am convinced that there is a danger to our Party and state which is real.
There is a primary election for the N.C. Court of Appeals that is of utmost importance to all citizens in North Carolina. Two-term District Court Judge Ann Marie Calabria, running for the statewide Court of Appeals, will be an incredibly strong bearer of the Republican banner in November. But first she must win her primary against her opponent Nate Pendley.
Pendley has filed lawsuits against the interests of the Republican Party, most recently, to counteract the fair redistricting decisions by the N.C. Supreme Court and the Superior Court of Johnston County.
Two years ago he recruited a homeless man to run for state auditor.
In 1994 Pendley was elected to the Superior Court only to have the seat taken away from him when it was determined that he had falsified his residency.
In 1995 he was charged with animal cruelty for castrating his dog at home.
This year he was reprimanded by the North Carolina State Bar for neglecting a client's case.
Nate Pendley would be an absolute embarrassment to the Republican Party and would drag our ticket down in November. I am concerned that if Pendley were a Republican nominee his poor judgment would be imputed to our other judicial candidates.
An important thing to know is that voting doesn't take place just on Election Day anymore. North Carolina now has early voting both by mail and in person. Starting last Thursday, August 22, primary voters could go to specific locations, such as their county board of elections office, and cast ballots. There is no longer any requirement that you foresee being out of town on Election Day to do this.
Please take advantage of this. My wife, Nancy, and I voted last Thursday. I urge you to go vote immediately instead of waiting for September 10. And, when you vote, please vote for Judge Ann Marie Calabria and pass this information on to your family and friends.
Sincerely,
Bill Cobey Chairman, North Carolina Republican Party
Unfortunately, PENDLEY is above CALABRIA on our ballot. I wonder why that is?
Anybody have any words on the SUPREME COURT candidates, WALKER and BRADY?
Wasn't that Jack Daly? Or has Jack once again changed his name, legally?
Exactly which carpetbagger are you talking about? Bowels or Dole?
Face it pal either way you're getting a carpetbagger but only one of them can put a hashmark on the (R) side of the scorecard!
