Novato, CA - The Pacific Justice Institute recently filed a lawsuit, on behalf of parents, against the Novato Unified School District for authorizing pro-homosexual presentations without any prior notice or consent. The presentations, entitled "Cootie Shots", exposed elementary school children, as young as 7-years-old, with skits containing gay and lesbian overtures. The presentations were followed by question and answer sessions about what constitutes "normal" families and acceptance of those who choose the homosexual lifestyle. After the assemblies took place, some of the concerned parents went to the schools to inquire why the school district had not complied with their explicit opt out request from such presentations. It was reported by school staff members that many of the forms were "missing". Such presentations are anticipated by many to become commonplace in California public schools following recent state legislation AB537, which recommends overt pro-homosexual and pro-transsexual "tolerance" instruction. "This lawsuit is the first in a major litigation campaign to combat school districts who attempt to undermine the statutory and constitutional rights of parents through the execution of AB537 recommendations," said Brad Dacus, president of the Pacific Justice Institute. "We intend to aggressively sue every school district that similarly violates the rights of parents." The Pacific Justice Institute affiliate attorney James R. Courshon is serving as lead counsel for the parents. The Pacific Justice Institute is a non-profit 501(c)(3) legal defense organization specializing in the defense of religious freedom, parental rights, and other civil liberties. P.O.
