No, just simple self-defense, a basic human right.

We'll see -- we have a history of prosecuting people that use excessive force -- I mean he shot the guy twice; why not only once? </sarcasm>

It's called "self-defense," apparently an unfamiliar concept for most British subjects.

Judge, jury, and executioner, eh?

Self-defense is not a trial. It is merely self-defense.

You poor Brit. You probably think all those CCTV cameras everywhere are dandy, too. England has become a prison for civilians.

Judges and juries are for uncovering the facts of a case after the crime has occurred. Self-defense is action taken by the victim at the time and place of the crime. Euroweenies just don't get this distinction. Too bad you felt the need to become one of them.

Please tell me that you are kidding.

Everyone has a right to protect themselves, their possesions, and their loved ones even if it means using deadly force.

You choose to live in the U.K. when the latest survey says the majority of people in the U.K. want to leave?

And the favorite destination the people from the U.K. select? The U.S.A. Not that I'm questioning your judgement. <`):-)~ BBBTTHHHH

You're gone from America now so don't let the door hit you in the a$$. Until you get your own head straightened out don't bother giving the rest of us advice. You have nothing to offer.

Did you read the entire article? What would you have recommended the couple do? Or rather, what would you and your husband done in that situation?

Interesting profile, BTW. Welcome to FR. I hope that you'll keep an open mind to the issues debated here.

Not only that, if it was MY house he entered, I'd bill the dead guy's mom for cleaning his blood out of the carpet.

Don't presume to give us advice. You lot haven't had a valid crime prevention program since they stopped using the Tower.

How the hell can you have any sympathy for the guy who was shot? He held this couple at gunpoint to rob them. They had a right to defend themselves on their own property.

Thats whats wrong with this country, when we start making the victims the criminals, and the criminals the victims.
