The following is an excerpt from a sermon preached by the Rev. Franklyn McAfee on Sept. 15, 2001, at a memorial Mass at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington. The Mass was for lawyer and author Barbara Olson, one of the passengers on American Airlines Flight 77 who died September 11 when hijackers crashed the plane into the Pentagon.

I was glad wash times printed this. I was hoping I'd find some articles on Barbara Olson. I really admired her whenever I saw her on tv. I remember seeing this funeral on tv it was the first time I really cryed over this (before this I was just shocked and motionless). Also, I remember Kate O'beirne giving a beautiful prayer during this service. Just thot I'd post this for any interested. God bless !

Thank you for posting this.

I remember that Brit Hume showed excerpts for this sermon. I think it is truly powerful.

I think he would have saved his anger for the heretics who defiled the place, not those who sought to subdue them.

Those were my first tears re 9-11 -- that night when a cable news anchor came on with her picture and confirmed her death. I remember throwing my hand to my brow and saying "oh God, we lost Barbara Olson". I just broke down after that.

The Washington Times had her picture on today's front page. I cut it out and taped it to my computer monitor at work. Think I'll leave it up there until this is all over.
