It is entirely possible that George W. Bush will go down in history as the savior of the United Nations

Heck, he's just keeping his campaign promise, he stated during the campaign that the bureacracy of the U.N. must be reformed ("A Distinctly American Internationalism" speech) or else...I expect more of the same in the future.

Could be. Could be something else.

Consider, if you will:

Kofi is furious with Bush for that speech, which, of course, pointed out what a crappy administator he is; Kofi works 24/7 to get a deal -- a deal he knows Bush won't accept, but one he believes he can foist off on the rest of the UN and the world as the best deal they can make.

Pressure on Bush to wait; Bush waits; Kofi's inspectors -- because they would NOT be ours -- go in and "inspect," give Iraq their seal of approval, and Bush is forced to back down.

Until something happens.

Now, if it works out that way, it would seem to me that Bush put the final nail in the coffin of what passes for the "United Nations."
