Migrants issue may swing poll in Sweden

A small Swedish party that has criticised the country's liberal immigration policy has soared in popularity ahead of a general election this weekend, threatening the re-election of the governing Social Democrats.
Opinion polls suggest that the centrist Liberal Party, which has proposed tightening immigration rules, will garner around 14 per cent of the vote, more than triple its last electoral performance of a little above four per cent.
"People are supporting us because we are addressing their concerns properly," said the party leader, Lars Leijonborg. His proposals are similar to the restrictive policies adopted by the conservative-liberal coalition in neighbouring Denmark.
He has suggested amending current rules so that immigrants who want family members to join them in Sweden would have to prove that they had the funds to support them for at least three years.
Mr Leijonborg's party has also called for language tests for those applying for Swedish citizenship, and for residence permits to be rescinded if immigrants lose their jobs and remain unemployed for more than three months.
The prime minister, Göran Persson, has been in the forefront of the fierce opposition to the proposals.
Despite the Liberals' surge in popularity, the Social Democratic Party still remains the country's largest, with around 36 per cent of the vote.
But years of high taxes and spending have left many voters disillusioned with the Left. Analysts say this weekend's election could be the closest for years.
Power. They, mostly the left, bring these people in, "help them to a good start" and then keep them dependent so they will vote for them.
2. Supression of wages of the regular folk. The "free market" dictates that elites can increase their money by free flow of blue collar and middle class labor.
There are very few real leaders, at present, in the West. Most politicians have very limited perspective--too little to seriously question the pontifications of the Leftist poseurs in Academia. (This is the same phenomenon, which leaves most of the World's media, way out in Leftfield.)
In short, the politicians want to appear to be "sophisticated," and are too dumb to realize that that means following sophists. And that is exactly what they do. The Socialist politicians, seek to hold on to power and prestige by following the sophist theorists in Academia.
The entire Western World is waiting for that honest little boy to shout it out, among the crowds of fawning dysrons: "The ideological movement is intellectually bankrupt. It makes no sense. It never made any sense. It reflects a sick, compulsive denial of reality." The Emperor is stark naked.
