A day before his speech to the United Nations, Bush, his wife, Laura, and others observed a moment of silence at the White House to commemorate the Sept. 11 attacks.
Bush’s bluster
on Iraq conceals
careful planning
A calculated plan to gain
support from U.N., Congress?
By Howard Fineman
SPECIAL TO MSNBC.COM
WASHINGTON, Sept. 11 —  Alexey Lavrov is a shrewd operator. He couldn’t have survived for eight years as Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations any other way. And something he told me the other day in New York gave me further evidence that behind George W. Bush’s rootin’ tootin’ go-it-alone bluster there has long been a plan to collect allies for war with Iraq.

It's interesting how W's intelligence changes by the week. Remember, in 1984, how the enemy changed in much the same manner?

The interesting piece in this article is Andy Card's admission that Cheney's dismissivness of UN inspections was NOT approved by Bush. Interesting that when Powell made comments about inspectors a few weeks ago, almost everyone on the right jumped on him for not being with the Administration and there were editorials calling for him to 'shape up or ship out'. The major news media played up this "rift" within the Administration with glee. Yet when Donald Rumsfeld wrote an op-ed piece slated for the Washington Post about the case for pre-emption and Bush wouldn't let it run, no one made a big deal out of it (certainly not any Conservatives). Interesting...

"Now is it me or is he saying Bush's is smarter than people people are giving him credit?"

Liberals in the press don't seem to understand that "running the country" is not about "getting your way".

Instead, it's about "managing your way"...

And Bush does have a way of letting his rhetoric get out of control when he first pushes his way through the swinging doors into the global saloon.

LOL, and the rats and other such critics just keep on "misunderestimating" him. I love it!

It is amazing to me that the RAT media just cannot figure President Bush out. They say the exact same things all the time, in every different situation. They say "Bush Talks Tough", "Rift Between Bush and Powell", "Bush Has Lost Control of the Debate", "Bush Has Lost His Momentum", "Bush Poll Numbers On the Slide", "Democrats Seize the Momentum", "War as Political Issue Losing to Bread and Butter Issues"...gosh, I could go on and on. It actually tickles me to death. By the way, Newsweek has our President's approval ratings back up to 70% today, a 9% increase in the last 2 weeks.

Reagan had an approach where he would ask for a lot, give a little and get most of his way. Based on what I read of Fineman's observations it appears that Bush is applying the same strategy. As much as I respect Bush Sr. for his strengths I think Bush Jr. could do very well by himself to emulate many of the political and social tactics of President Reagan.

Please. Every nuance coming out of the White House is dialed in and coordinated to the master plan. This is life and death, folks. Only the sub-120 IQ folks who work for the national news media could be dumb enough not to grasp that fact.

Isn't it interesting that Howard Fineman couldn't figure this out until a Russian explained it to him? LMAO!!!

I love it... the "smart" president was caught getting blow jobs in the oval office while the "dumb" president turns out to be a great world leader.

Yep, and while they're wringing their hands and moaning about him not building a coalition, the entire world is pulling toward him like a magnet drug through metal shavings.

I'm totally confused. One day, the media calls Bush a shooting from the hip stupid cowboy, the next day they call him a genius, and a very carefuul planer. Can these extremist liberal media ever make up their mind?

Always remember what the head democrat Bob Bullock used to say to his friends after Bush became Gov of Texas.
"Some day this man will become President and he's going to be a great one."

"As much as I respect Bush Sr. for his strengths I think Bush Jr. could do very well by himself to emulate many of the political and social tactics of President Reagan."

That's what those of us in Texas kept saying during the primaries: he's not so much his father's son as he is Reagan's heir.

If one followed him closely during the preparation and the conduct of the primaries, one would recognize that a.) he learned from his father's mistakes and b.) he admired Reagan and learned from his successes.

Ideologically, Bush 43 is far closer to Reagan than to Bush 41. He's a son of Texas, not Connecticut...

They have minds? Great question. Now, you have cast some doubts about my Thesis. Nobody can change anything which does not exists.
