Majority of Britons Back Bush Deadline on Iraq-Poll

LONDON (Reuters) - An overwhelming 95 percent of Britons back a U.S. call for a deadline to be imposed on Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein ( news - web sites) over letting U.N. weapons inspectors back in, a new poll showed.

But in the absence of a U.N. agreement, they were much less supportive -- The Sunday Times showed 49 percent were opposed to the U.S. launching an attack without U.N. backing.

By a margin of almost two to one -- 57 to 34 percent -- people said Britain should not commit any troops if the United States decided to attack without a U.N. agreement.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair ( news - web sites) has been the most vocal supporter of Bush's hawkish stance on Iraq.

Bush, who has openly called for "regime change" in Iraq, said on Thursday U.N. arms inspectors who were kicked out in 1998 had to be unconditionally readmitted immediately.

Iraq said on Saturday it would only allow inspectors back in under a deal that would also prevent a U.S. attack and lift crippling 12-year-old U.N. sanctions.

Remember: the UN Speech was Act I. Still two more acts to go. Do you feel lucky, Tommy?

The Bush-Blair team has been impressive!! Tony Blair was never this great when connected with Clinton! Bush is a true leader, inspires all. Now the UK is on-board, even with their phenomenally negative, liberal media! Amazing!
