Statement by the Deputy Press SecretaryAs the President said, the UN Security Council needs to decide how to enforce its own resolutions, which the Iraqi regime has defied for more than a decade.
This will require a new, effective UN Security Council resolution that will actually deal with the threat Saddam Hussein poses to the Iraqi people, to the region, and to the world. That is the course the Security Council is on, and the United States is engaged in consultations with Council members and other partners in New York at this time.
This is not a matter of inspections. It is about disarmament of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and the Iraqi regime's compliance with all other Security Council resolutions.
This is a tactical step by Iraq in hopes of avoiding strong UN Security Council action. As such, it is a tactic that will fail.
It is time for the Security Council to act.
Emphasis is mine.
Thank God he is saying this.....inspections are NOT enough!
Memorandum

From: POTUS
For God's sake, turn the page and CATCH UP!
Or find your place in the dust bin of irrelevance.
I hope Kofi and the SC members take the hint. The UN is walking on thin ice now that we have a President who expects them to live up to their charter. He's within an inch of calling them irrelevant.
This is my favorite line. I started listening to Chris Matthews just to hear how he would whine and I was not disappointed. He thinks inspectors should be enough and that Saddam should not have to meet any other conditions. He thinks President Bush was "blind-sided" by Saddam and that now the President is acting like a "cowboy"....why would I ever expect anything more from Chrissy? In truth, I didn't.
Notice the present tense.
This is a tactical step by Iraq in hopes of avoiding strong UN Security Council action. As such, it is a tactic that will fail.Yeah.
But too bad ol' Koffee Kup took the bait hook, line, and sinker.
Duh.....
to go to hell
Bump
This says it all. Are they going to pass a 17th resolution to be flaunted by Iraq, or are they going to pass one calling for immediate action? I love the way Dubya keeps putting the onus back on the UN, the weakest link.
