TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) A daughter of Muhammad Ali was arrested on a charge of trying to shoplift bedding from a store in Rossford, Ohio, last week.
Hana Yasmeen Ali, 26, of Berrien Springs, Mich., was scheduled to appear in Perrysburg Municipal Court on Wednesday on a misdemeanor charge of attempted theft. She identified herself as Ali's daughter when she was arrested, officer Craig Revill said.
Employees at the store, Linens & Things, also reported that she tried to tamper with a price tag on a $69.99 picture frame.
Ali, one of nine children of the former heavyweight boxing champ, wrote a book titled ``More Than a Hero'' about her father.
A store clerk became suspicious because bags of linens Ali was carrying felt heavy, police said. When the bags were checked, other items were found inside and the price tag on a picture frame was handwritten, the store said.
A store manager said the woman denied taking the items and left. Ali was stopped by police as she was driving away.
Jill Siegel, publicist for Ali's family, said that the family had no comment Tuesday.
Ali was kept in the Wood County jail last Thursday night and was released Friday after posting $1,500 of a $4,500 bond. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $750 fine.
She also was charged with not having a driver's license, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
If Ali was carrying it, how did the store clerk know that it felt heavy?
Nice reporting.
I suspect that if the store security aprehended her, she probably isn't the one. Or, at least she isn't that good at it.
The viewpoints of dishonest people are just as valid as anyone else's.
