Yes, Algore, it will take a Republican Florida Govenor to issue an executive order and fire the corrupt precinct captains and hire reliable, responsible, honest poll workers.

Once that is done every democrat must be tested for the following skills prior to voting: reading, reasoning, motion, know what year it is and breathing.

Hey, sorry, just kidding about the breathing, except in Chicago.

How so? These are elected officials not appointed. What is the Gov to do?

The sad fact is that the interest level of the average American voter is about nil. They glean a minute or two of info on the nightly news and maybe a couple more reading the paper when they're taking a dump. That being said, there is a large group of people from traditional democratic families that don't even realize that the dems don't even represent their views any more. In fact, many take what dems say as gospel because they've been democrats for generations. Republicans need to cut through the crap and start throwing a couple of stones back to expose these guys and gals for what they really are.

Jeb Bush needs to go on TV and say, "Look folks, Al Gore is either an idiot or he thinks you're an idiot.

Might feel good but not politically savvy. The media will then say "Bush denies responsibility for voting fracas" and you know perfectly well his words will be twisted into something they aren't.

IMO, best to simply ignore a living, breathing irrelevancy like Al Gore. Save the fight for when it really matters.

Sorry to say but, fair or not, the governor as the top man gets the blame.

Bull Crap! Bull Crap! The governor doesn't run elections in Florida. The Secretary of State doesn't run elections in Florida. The county governments - specifically the Supervisor of Elections - run elections in Florida.

The Florida legislature and the Governor allocated over $30 million to clean up election problems - machines, training, etc.. The largest portions of that money went to Broward and Miami-Dade Counties. The Supervisors of Elections in those two counties screwed up. Period. Bush and the legislature did all that could be expected from them. What was Jeb to do, go down there and tell those cretins how to turn the damned machines on?

One other point I should have made before christening this thread...

Gore says he'd have fixed the problem. If he'd really do that, he'd be in court forever for violating the rights of these goofs when he replaced them. You just can't fire incomps anymore.

Yes, just like he tried to "fix" the Florida voting system by changing the definition of a vote repeatedly in an attempt to change the outcome of the 2000 election...
Oh and he also tried to "fix" the military votes by disqualifying as many as possible on technicalities.
Gore should keep his mouth shut.

Maybe you're right. It just pisses me off. You have to admit there are a large number of people that will hear this once and believe it. The press knows it.... The dems know it.... There is no "truth in advertising" law in politics.

A Republican web page might half-heartedly blame a Democrat governor, but the media would never, never print it.

Anyone who is honest or who has spent more then 5 minutes checking into Florida election policies and law will see the governor actually has very little to do with how voting is run. Elections are handled by each county through either elected (Broward) or appointed (Miami-Dade) election officials. They hold the final responsibility to see that elections are run correctly and in accordance with the laws set forth by the legislature.

Now, I don't expect most of the media to report this fact, or the fact that the two counties again in question have a democrat mafia running their election boards. Nor do I expect a single lying Dem to admit the problem is their party, not the Governor.

If the roles were reversed, of course, the GOP would be piling on.

Um, no Austin Willard Wright, the roles would not be reversed to begin with so your supposition is false.

"If I were were Governor of this state, I think I'd have fixed that by now...It's been two years"

Sorry, Al. It seems that it is illegal to ban Democrats from running Election Boards or being pol workers.

As the Orlando Sentinel wrote in a 9/17/02 Editorial:

So far, everything points to a lack of poll-worker training in South Florida and too few, if any, dry runs before the primary. That's not the governor's fault. That's not the Legislature's fault or even the fault of the secretary of state, whose office oversees election rules. It's the responsibility of local elections supervisors, and in the counties with the most problems, those supervisors happen to be Democrats or to work for Democratic bosses.

For all you conspiracy buffs who figure the Republicans were up to no good, the evidence doesn't add up.

In all, 16 counties used new equipment, but the craziness was confined once again to two South Florida counties. Well, at least Palm Beach County seemed to get it right this time.

Turns out Miami-Dade County's elections office offered only four hours of training for poll workers while other counties with new touch-screen equipment offered up to 12 hours. Their elections went without a hitch. Sarasota County's poll workers even had to pass a test to show they understood how the new machines work. By contrast, one Broward County poll clerk told The Miami Herald she never "touched the machine until Election Day."

Hey, didn't Gore's father and the Voting Rights Act take care of that kind of stuff? Or am I just confused again?
