Praise for THE WAR AGAINST AMERICA...

"Move over, Tom Clancy, Laurie Mylroie has written the year's thriller…. This splendid and wholly convincing book should form the basis for urgent Senate and House hearings to get to the bottom of the case."

-Richard Perle, former Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy

"After September 11 many, including myself, believe that the attacks may be the result of a partnership between the terrorists and a state with a sophisticated intelligence service and a program of biological warfare. If this proves to be true and Iraq is shown to be the terrorists' partners, there is no reason for anyone to ask, 'Why didn't someone warn us?' because Laurie Mylroie did."

-R. James Woolsey, former CIA Director

"Provocative and disturbing…argues powerfully that the shadowy mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing…was in fact an agent of Iraqi intelligence."

-Paul Wolfowitz, Deputy Secretary of Defense

"A convincing case that the technical skills, coordination, and resources required for mega-terror operations need the support of hostile intelligence agencies and governments with an overriding need to strike America senseless."

-Washington Post

On September 11, Americans were faced with destruction so terrifying that they couldn't always speak of it in direct terms. Instead, they made comparisons: it was like a movie, a nightmare, Pearl Harbor. But in fact, this attack resembles nothing more than it resembles the first bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993, the harbinger of terrorism to come.

In THE WAR AGAINST AMERICA (ReganBooks; An Imprint of HarperCollinsPublishers; On-sale Date: November 7, 2001; ISBN 0-06-009771-X; $14.00 U.S. / $20.95 Canada), Laurie Mylroie-an adviser to Bill Clinton on Iraq and coauthor of New York Times bestseller Saddam Hussein and the Crisis in the Gulf-revisits her previous in-depth investigations of this first attack. Now, taking into account compelling new information, Mylroie offers a real-life detective story that follows the individuals-and perhaps nations-behind the original bombing. In the process, she raises astonishing questions about the September 11 assault and the biological attacks that have followed.

In his foreword, former CIA Director R. James Woolsey supports Mylroie's assertions that during the early 1990's, the U.S. government shifted from viewing terrorism as a tool used by governments to a practice engaged in by smaller fringe networks. This change led U.S. officials to go after the individuals responsible for the first World Trade Center attack while overlooking the fact that those men appeared to have extensive contacts with Iraqi intelligence. But here, Mylroie traces the actions of Ramzi Yousef, the mastermind behind the bombing, who remained at large until a botched attempt to down a dozen U.S. planes two years later. In reviewing Yousef's phone calls before the bombing, false passports and escape patterns, Mylroie finds ties to Iraq at every turn. Could it be that he was acting alone, out of his own hatred for America, or was the Iraqi government, and Saddam Hussein in particular, supporting Yousef in what was once the most ambitious terrorist attack on U.S. soil?

During this time when Americans are desperately seeking answers, they first need to discover which questions to ask. Nineteen men, who seemed to be working with Osama bin Laden, took down four planes on September 11. But was bin Laden working with support from shadow nations? And Saddam Hussein, who has stores of anthrax, has vowed that his battle with America will continue. Is this his idea of revenge?

THE WAR AGAINST AMERICA is a must-read for anyone seeking a greater understanding of terrorism. Laurie Mylroie's tireless research and thoughtful analysis offer stunning, convincing new evidence about the 1993 World Trade Center bombing that will forever change the way that Americans view the events of September 11.

FRONTLINE, "Gunning for Saddam," Airing on PBS, Nov 8, 9:00 PM

As Americans are confronted by acts of bioterrorism, powerful forces in the nation's capitol believe Iraqi President Saddam Hussein is to blame for this and many other terrorist acts during the last decade. Many are lobbying to mobilize a military operation to oust Hussein when the next phase of the war on terrorism kicks in. Proponents of the plan, including former Clinton administration CIA director James Woolsey, contend Hussein was involved in the first World Trade Center bombing, the attempted assassination of President George H.W. Bush in 1993, and the ongoing state sponsorship of terrorist activities. Foes of this plan argue that attacking Hussein will destabilize other nations in the region, most prominently Saudi Arabia, and no doubt destroy the carefully crafted coalition presently hunting for Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan. FRONTLINE investigates America's other enemy, Saddam Hussein.

I just bought a used copy for $3.99.They have a bunch of used copies, starting at $3.45.Here's a few reviews from ordinary people:

The War Against America: Saddam Hussein and the World Trade Center Attacks: A Study of Revenge
by Laurie Mylroie, R. James Woolsey
Charlotte, NC
I first read this book in the aftermath of September 11th. Those who argue against a US invasion of Iraq to depose Saddam Hussein should read "Study of Revenge" first. Written well over a year or so before 9-11, its author makes a compelling argument that Saddam Hussein was the mastermind behind the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, virtually every terrorist event orchestrated against the United States since that time, and that his influence and direction is the real power behind the Al-Qaeda terrorist network - not Bin Laden.

For anyone interested in Tom Clancy, spy novels, or books on espoinage, this is a great read. Laurie Mylroie illustrates the phases of the original WTC bombing plot, the arrival of two mysterious men (who she proves were agents of the Iraqi intelligence), and the elaborate construction of the bomb itself. She talks about the components of the bomb which included a hydrogen cyanide solution the bombers hoped would create a giant poison gas cloud to rise up through the towers and kill everyone. Had their plot worked, over a 100,000 people would have died, and 9-11 would have come eight years earlier in the first months of the Clinton administration. The transition of power would have left America is a more vunerable state than we find ourselves today.

In addition, Mylroie examines the Al-Qaeda network and its dwindling influence prior to the Iraqi defeat in the 1991 Gulf War. She posits that Saddam Hussein is providing training, money, and intelligence to Bin Laden in order to exact revenge on America. Bin Laden gets the glory he craves, and Saddam gets the revenge he craves without incurring the wrath of the world at large. She points out that Iraq and Al-Qaeda's interests conveniently intersect at key points, such as the demand US troops leave the Holy Land. Bin Laden wants infidels out of the land of Mecca. Saddam wants the Saudi oil fields unguarded so he can move in and take them.

After reading this, you will find yourself waiting impatiently for George Bush to send troops into Iraq, for our sake and for the sake of the oppressed Iraqi people... --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

4 of 5 stars A strong implication of Iraq in world-wide terrorism..., February 9, 2002
Top 1000 Reviewer Reviewer: James F. Anderson III (see more about me) from Woodbury, MN USA

If you ever had doubts about the culpability of Iraq in international terrorism, reading this book will eliminate any of your questions. In this book, the author presents copious amounts of evidence which details Iraqi involvement in the first World Trade Center bombing as well as other terrorist attacks against Western(primarily American) targets. Reading this book will convince you of two things: 1) the stunning failure of the Clinton administration's foreign policy with regards to the Middle East 2) the necessity of confronting the Iraqi regime as part of our war against terrorism.

4 of 5 stars Loose network with a common thread?, February 5, 2002
Top 500 Reviewer Reviewer: Rico (see more about me) from San Diegoitlan, Califas

Having read the diverse reviews of this book I'm further convinced that every one has an opinion, just like a certain part of the human anatomy. After reading this very interesting book I came away further convinced of the current danger, future threat and just how far Hussein may go to avenge his defeat in the Gulf War. Before the horrifying events of 9/11 this book was released under the titile "Study of Revenge." That is exactly the point Laurie Mylroie goes to extensive research to try and prove. The fact is she can't exactly pin Hussein down but she presents a credible case. Considering the CIA, Feds and Government have the same suspicions but haven't been able to prove it either, Mylroie ties some loose ends together for the reader to be the judge. One of the interesting parts of the book is how the various agencies seem to be their own worst enemy, each withholding information from one another instead of sharing for the common good. The information presented concerning the first WTC bombing is a fascinating study about an International conspiracy that quite possibly needed the intelligence of state sponsorship since some of these characters are little more than petty criminals prior to the bombing. Her point is that Hussein is able to discreetly sponsor without direct state involvement, thus placing any fingerprints on the dupes who carried out the actions. The information is presented complete with court documents, photographs and text from the trial of those responsible for the WTC bombing in 1993. The book is easy enough to follow, with a 2 year chronology of related events and a list of characters involved, including a mystery man who arrives to supervise the final stages of the bombing. Could this have been a member of Iraqi intelligence? Who really knows, what is clear is that Hussein feels there is unfinshed business to avenge the Gulf War. The author does have an agenda, presents her case, and maybe if someone in the governmnet had listened to her the WTC might be standing today. The warning signs appeared to have been everywhere. Mylroie sets the stage and takes the reader through a series of events that eventually lead up to the 1993 WTC bombing, all the while pointing in the direction of a greater evil. Even if you don't agree with her case, and the behind the scenes culprit being Hussein, the information provided concerning the 1993 conspiracy is concise, accurate and allows the reader to come to their own conclusion. Highly recommended for anyone interested in current events, terrorism or Saddam Hussein.

I heard the author interviewed on the Dennis Prager radio show and was impressed. She is an expert in Iraq and its meglomaniac leader.

Her insights into the failed policies of the Clinton adminstration make an insightful read. I highly recommend this book. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

I have suspected that the Bush administration knows a lot more than they're saying about Iraq, and that the links they have implied between Iraq, terrorism and credible threats to US citizens are not arbitrary. Perhaps this book, and other sources, may provide some insights.

Of one thing I am sure: I trust Bush more than I trust his detractors. And, as far as I'm concerned, Saddam's attempt to assassinate a former US president is justification enough for obliterating that deranged freak.

I couldn't agree with you more, Imal! There was a thread a few days ago and several posters repeated this comment on other threads.Something to the effect that one of the Bush Administration's spokesman said that if you think it's something that the Democrats are bailing out(on their objections to attacking Iraq,at this point) - "this wasn't even our best shot. This is like a 3 act play.Wait until you see act 11!" WOW ! I wonder what act 11 is?!

You cannot understand the thinking of the Bush administration, or what really happened on 9/11/01, without reading this book. It's that simple.
