"They should consider themselves lucky. If it were 1942 they wouldn't be going through a toll booth... they'd be in a detainee camp for Arab collaborators."

Exactly.
And what was so bad about the internment camps, anyway?
Those camps probably saved a lot of folks from being harmed by irate Americans, and I'd still bet they also served to prevent sabotage and espionage by the Quote-unquote "Japanese-Americans."
I have yet to meet a person of Japanese descent who did not think of himself as Japanese first, American (or other) second.

For me to say what I really think about you would probably get me banned from this site. So Japanese-Americans took up arms against America during the war? So Japanese-Americans expatriated themselves to Japan to fight against America? So Japanese-Americans didn't have some of the best records winning innumerable awards in the war in Europe?

I have never met a Japanese-American who did not consider himself American first, Japanese by ethnic descent. Of course, since you have obviously met several of these imaginary traitorous Japanese-Americans, I am certain you wouldn't mind posting a few examples for us non-believers... boy don't I wish I could get personal on this...

You are either racist or totally ignorant of history. Just about every military age interned Japanese volunteered for military service and fought in Europe where they were one of the military's most decorated unit during the war. Hawaii's Senator Inouye (although he's a rascally Democrat) fought in that unit and left his arm in Europe.

The reason the Japanese were interned was partially paranoia and partially greed. California politicians confiscated the homes and possessions of those interned. To "offset" this debt the US government paid each internee $10,000 back in the 70's.

This is truly one of the most repulsive racist things I have seen written on Free Republic. You ever hear of the 442nd regiment?

My wife's grandfather was that. He was American first and happened to be Japanese. Joined the Nissei when he was 17 to fight (also to get the hell out of the camps) against the forces of Nazism and Fascism. His mother was two when she came to America and she was interned along with his father (who was 19 when he came). His mother was also an American first and Japanese second and put her tiny little foot on her 4'10" frame down and said that they were staying in America until they died once they were released. Your apology is accepted.
