Fishwrap: Leave Saddam and his Camels Alone!

When will the editors at the Chron put down that joint and sober up? Firstly, they criticize the President by insisting that he gets a resolution from Congress as to an invasion of Iraq. Now that the President is prepared to do just that, the Chron laments that he's now getting the consent of Congress. Go figure. The Chron fears that the members of Congress are going to be "pressured" into agreeing to a War Powers Act because it's so near election day. Don't blame the President, the Demos and lthe lib papers, like the Chron, have been clamoring for such a vote for months.

Not only does the Chron feel that Iraq is no threat, now that they are apparently willing to allow arms inspections, but that a war against Iraq may lead to a wider war. With who, the foreign policy experts at the Chron won't say. They meekly offer Iran as a next flash point, but Iran is a sworn enemy of Iraq and is secretly supportive of the US move. There's obviously quite a shortage of foreign policy experts at the Chron. Here's what's troubling those potheads at the Chron. They oppose the President because he's seeking a resolution which has a:

"mandate that allows the United States to dump Hussein and restore international peace and security in the region."

The Chron goes on to express an oasis of clear thought within its muddled editorial:

"Bush's unilateral approach to world problems is a winner when it comes to targeting Hussein, a dictator without a shred of legitimate support. " Apparently, the Chron is not counting itself as a "legitimate" ally, when it incessantly supports Iraq's brutal dictator. Finally an admission that Chronwatch can agree with.

The prospect of Operation Desert Storm II is a pretty frightening for the Chron's Kumbaya crowd down at 5th and Mission Streets. President Bush has made it clear that this will be prolonged war and we will root out all those states that support terror in our quest to avenge 9/11. The purpose of targeting Iraq is to defeat a despot that has threatened the US, creates instability in the region and is accumulating weapons of mass destruction. Israel had already, several years ago, knocked out a nuclear facility there.

The defeat of this tinhorn dictator will, additionally, send a strong message to other despotic leaders in the Arab community to shape up or ship out. That's why their neighbors are publicly not supporting the invasion. Privately they all are. The states that support an invasion include: the Emirates, Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Saudi Royals figure better them then us.

The Saudis will get the message and reform may be legitimately possible there. I believe that's part of the clever US strategy. After a Rand Corporation report targeted Saudi Arabia as a major threat, the President then began a flurry of meetings with the Royals, reiterating their "friendship". T hat friendship may be a part of the strategy of "keeping your friends close and your enemies closer". Despite this outward show of camaraderie may be just that -a show. The U.S. State Department has quietly named Saudi Arabia as a state that harbors terrorists on a Watch List published just 2 weeks ago! If I were the Royals, I'd be very nervous and even my camels would be on their best behavior.

What is a "Chron?" Is this a publication referenced in a Star Trek movie?
