GOVERNOR DAVIS SIGNS LANDMARK LEGISLATION APPROVING STEM CELL RESEARCH 09/22/2002Stem cell research is a serious evil that many people just don't understand. Harvesting embryos, experimenting on them, killing them ... when will it stop? Will they find out that it's better to have 9-month aborted fetuses, and pay women to wait to abort so they can have the choice experimental medium? Or killing old people before they naturally die to experiment to find cures?Joined by actor Christopher Reeve and several of California's leading biotech researchers, Governor Gray Davis today signed landmark legislation designed to promote stem cell research in California.
SB 253, by Senator Deborah V. Ortiz (D-Sacramento), authorizes stem cell research from any source, including human embryonic stem cells, that is reviewed by an approved institutional review board. The new law also will facilitate the voluntary donation of embryos for stem cell research.
The new law also will require that individuals receiving infertility treatments be provided information regarding the disposition of an embryo, including the possibility of donating embryos for research and requires written consent for embryos donated for research. In addition, the bill would prohibit the sale of embryos.
It is sad -- and it is life -- that people get diseases, some of them incurable, and their life isn't what they imagined. They suffer, they are in pain, they feel that they are a burden. I believe in medical research. I just don't believe that we should kill any living human to make another living human's life better.
This is another major difference between Gray Davis and Bill Simon.
