AAPS is on the right track, but their recommendations should have been simpler. Bush 43 needs to intervene in our screwed up vaccine supply system. He needs to have Sec. Thompson and FDA shelve patent rights on the vaccines and to permanently end high priced litigation for "vaccine associated injuries" for smallpox immunization.

Then, they need to tell Wyeth Pharmaceuticals to either ship the vaccine or turn over the vaccine to Aventis, Merck, or GlaxoSmithKline. If Wyeth won't ship, other companies will.

The lack of SP vaccine in our hands is testimony to the poor leadership of Bill Clinton. After all, their administration had eight years to correct the problem and they didn't do it. Bush 43 has had one year to address this issue. As more time elapses without the vaccines, physicians will lose confidence in the Administration's planning.

These people agree that the government's smallpox plan makes no sense. Whether your explanation is the right one remains to be seen.

If the Feds would *stop* intervening we might have the freedom to buy tetanus or smallpox vaccines today.
