Alicia Kelly was lying on the couch in the den of her West Ashley home nursing her 3-month-old daughter when she felt something nudge against her side. She thought it was her 45-pound dog, Serena. Half- asleep, she turned to shoo the dog away, but instead of finding a paw on her side, she found a hoof and a 300- pound buck hovering above her and her baby.

I think that would startle me, too.
Due to the construction in our area, we've had a lot more deer in the yard this year--they come up to porch, but none has ever ventured into the house.
I did find a snake in the laundry room last fall, though. I'd have much preferred the deer :)

That'd wake you up in a hurry, wouldn't it? :)
What's sad is that, according to the article, the deer ultimately had to be put down due to "internal injuries". It's unclear whether or not those injuries (and the blood found all over the house after the deer's 'rampage' in its attempt to get the heck outta there) were actually caused by his running around the home and running into things, or whether the injuries were sustained prior to his entering the house in the first place.
Either way, glad the lady and baby are fine.......but sad about the buck.

Sorry about the deer right we are getting more deer then we need they are becoming like varmits. One less deer no big deal.

When I was little I remember a herd of Elk coming through town (Minturn, Colorado) and tearing up a bunch of porches and other things.

Would a self-defense hollow point 9mm from a pistol be a humane deer round if fired from <15'? I'm thinking "yes".

I had a similar thing happen to me with a squirrel. I fell asleep on my living room couch after snacking on some Ritz crackers. I was awakened from my sleep by a comotion in the middle of the living room. There was a squirrel with his head stuck inside the box of crackers and a neat little pile of fine cracker crumbs heaped up in the middle of the living room floor. He had chewed through the screen door on the patio. He had a little friend outside the screen door keeping watch. He popped his head up out of the box holding up a cracker to his mouth and looked staight at me; Oh, Oh...BUSTED. I stayed calm and sort of guided him back out through the patio.

How did he get into the house without her hearing him in the first place. She must live out towards James or John Island in a wooded area.
