It Was Ugly at Morgan State Last Night
September 27, 2002    Ron Smith's Something to Say

(September 27, 2002)

Well, what a rude, contemptuous, ugly reception Bob Ehrlich got at Morgan State last night when he showed up to debate Kathleen Kennedy Townsend. (They even booed his wife and parents as they were led to their seats). This gubernatorial debate was so stacked in favor of the Democrat as to be ludicrous—even for the State of Maryland.

Not only was the audience aggressively hostile to the Republican congressman, the questioners on the panel were all from organizations that are predictably “progressive,” i.e., reflexively Democrat in their sympathies. Of course, this is the only way the lieutenant governor was going to agree to debate her opponent, at a forum controlled by her supporters, sponsored by the ostensibly non-partisan NAACP, which is in reality a political extension of the Democratic National Committee.

So now everyone wants to chime in on who “won.” My e-mail correspondents lean toward the theory that it’s more about who “lost.” And they think it’s the voters of Maryland who were the losers after last night’s stinkeroo verbal slugfest. They’re losers because what the occasion was all about was RACE, RACE, and RACE.

From the opening hostile booing to the bullying tactics of Mrs. Townsend, it was all a setup, designed to embarrass the white, conservative guy while allowing KKT to pose herself as the steadfast champion of black welfare. Ehrlich handled himself well, but must have felt in dire need of a shower after being subjected to all that crap.

If exceeding low expectations is what matters, the Democrat was the clear winner. She proved she could lead an angry mob and hurl invectives with the best of them. If keeping one’s cool under stress is the object, Ehrlich proved his mettle in that regard.

Few people saw the debate live, scheduled as it was in the midst of network TV premiere week programming. Who watches Comcast 8? Political debates are annoying even when conducted in a more civilized manner. They are, after all, about promising a bunch of Pauls that you and your party will give them the most from the looting of Peter. Politics is an auction. Politicians make lots of promises. Some they even keep. Most are tawdry to begin with.

If there is another clash between these two, suggests one listener, maybe it should be at the Associated Gun Clubs facility so the candidates could enjoy another evenly balanced crowd.

KKT supporters passed out OREO cookies to protest Ehrlich's conservative and black running mate, Michael Steele. Charm City indeed.

So who are the racists today? Looks like the Kennedys, which fits perfect. Her grandpap was the biggest bigot north of Capetown.

Heard it on the Chip Franklin show this morning and Ron Smith this afternoon. WBAL had a reporter there, they might have info for you.

She proved she could lead an angry mob and hurl invectives with the best of them.

What invectives did KKT allegedly hurl against her opponent? This sounds more like a tactic used by the Smirking Chimp against a NYT reporter than anything a good Democrat would ever do. Dems don't indulge in Smirk's Gestapo tactics.

Can you imagine if this was done on behalf of a white politician?!

Oh wait, KKK-T is white!!! Scratch that.

Can you imagine if this was done on behalf of a white REPUBLICAN?!

Can you imagine the field day the press would have then?!?! . . . Top

Of course you leftists would never stoop to using invective, such as calling your opponent a "Smirking Chimp" and describing his party's actions as "Gestapo tactics".

You're so used to lying that you don't even notice the most obvious contradictions.

For the rest of us, however, it's quite amusing.

I hate this city. Of course, I don't know of any major metropolitan area one can live in that wouldn't be so tightly controlled by the Dems. That just goes to show you how much I hate living in small towns.

On that note, I don't much care for Ron Smith either. I think he's an arrogant boor. He's nothing but belittling to those that call into his show and disagree with him; his debate style against those that have valid points is to yell as loud as he can then hang up.

He doesn't support an invasion of Iraq either, for what that's worth here of course.

It use to be amusing now it's disgusting. KKT was a nasty *itch with one hand on her hip and a smirk on her face. Nothing like trying to live off of a name soooo looong ago which the media made out to be "camelot". What a joke!

A bunch of drunks, crooks and skirt chasers doesn't sound like "camelot" to me. Disfunctional comes to mind.

I have a question that's been bugging me. Does the DNC send you a complete packet of Kool-Aid, or do they just send the "secret ingredient"? Also, if you have to provide the Kool-Aid, do you get a discount coupon? Or do you skip the Kool-Aid and just hit yourself over the head once a month?

I simply must know. Thanks!

You know, toss a grenade, and run away, not to be found until it's time for another sneak attack?

Do dems do dat?

Or do they just call names?

The Baltimore Sun , no friend of Ehrlich, indicated that some of his supporters were told to turn all political t-shirts praising him inside out and to leave placards and other such material outside the auditorium.

When they got inside, guess what? They met the KKT crowd who had on correctly worn shirts and were carrying signs praising their candidate.
