My Mother was a school nurse for 30 years and couldn't even pass out an aspirin w/o parental consent, only a soda bicarb pill. Oh, those were the days.

Bullshit. Attendance at public school does not cede parental rights to the the State.

It's only a very small step to making the argument that it would be advantageous to the state, as well as the hard pressed ratepayers, to provide a postpartem abortion to the young girls' mothers.

That way everyone can have all the messiness of contraception, it's failure and it's success, removed from the school system.

Life would be much easier for the teachers.

I am sure you would agree, eh?!

where's your sarcasm mark????
you seem to advocate keeping parents in the dark if their kid is a slut... as for "in a Govt-run school" some parents cant afford otherwise. Get real! Giving *anything* to 11 year olds without parents permission/notification, let alone morning after pills (ewww), is a SHOCKING abrogation of parental rights.

Effectively it does, especially in the U.S. and U.K. where the government doesn't prevent parents from choosing a private school. Most of the public schools, especially in cities, are jammed to the rafters with kids whose parents haven't the slightest interest in raising them. It's simply impossible to run a school which handles those kids, while not infringing on the desires of the minority of parents who are actually making a meaningful effort to raise their children.

Where were these fine upstanding parents when their 11-year-old got a vagina full of semen? I think that's a lot more SHOCKING than having them swallow a morning-after pill without their parents' knowledge. I think we're talking about two completely different kinds of parents here, and we have to acknowledge the realities in the live of many kids whose parents don't give a rat's ass if their daughter is sleeping around at age 11. Dad is probably long since out of the picture, and mom probably views the daughter as little more than an annoying impediment to her own sleeping around activities. I'm willing to bet that nearly all (and maybe absolutely all) girls who arrive at the school nurse's office at the age of 11 or 12 asking for a morning after pill, come from this sort of background. The girls of parents who are actually taking an active part in raising their children in a civilized manner aren't likely to be getting pregnant at this age in the first place, and if they do they are very likely to go to their mothers for help.

You presume too much ... "probably" ... "parents dont give a rat's ass" etc. The facts is, you dont KNOW what the situation might be. ..."The girls of parents who are actually taking an active part in raising their children in a civilized manner aren't likely to be getting pregnant".In fact, NO kids at this age are LIKELY to be pregnant. But if they are, whatever the circumstance, it does NOT HELP keeping parents in the dark.

You presume as much as the idiot who decided to give out pills wihtout telling parents. Your whole diatribe is, well, a diatribe. Any kid at 11 or 12 should have their parents informed when the school is giving out drugs. No exceptions!

I agree 100%.

It's crap like this policy that causes me to put my kids into private school, but I must tell ya, it's rediculous that it is that way in schools. A lot of parents cant afford private schools, and it is quite insulting to imply they deserve this treatment. I am shocked there is anyone who actually thinks this is fair!

Most of the public schools, especially in cities, are jammed to the rafters with kids whose parents haven't the slightest interest in raising them.

This is an abominable lie and an insult to parents. 12% of U.S. kids go to private schools, about 88% to public schools. The vast majority of parents love and care for their kids deeply. So obviously there are loving parents who are trusting their kids to public schools. Having to send kids to schools in inner cities, run by schools boards that an individual parent has almost zero control over, means that non-rich parents are effectively hostage to these schools and their policies. so you dont get it. You add insult to injury by justifying abominable policies by falsely accusing parents of not caring, when in fact, caring or not, they have control taken away from them and have little legal recourse.

Schools should operate on the assumption that parents have the right to know what is happening to their kids. The atttitude that people dont deserve rights is the attitude of a socialist not a Freedom-lover.

Which is EXACTLY the agenda here. God forbid the fathers should have to take responsibility for their actions.

If its Ends Justify the Means tactics we're advocating, I'd rather see the boys snipped than 10-11 year old girls drugged. Thanks but no thanks.
