Mr. Cantor, who is white and a lifelong Richmond resident. "He is constantly talking about the South and Southern heritage, and these are just not the issues on the minds of voters."

You know Mr. Cantor, maybe it's on the minds of the voters more than you think. This coming from a state(and correct me if I'm wrong) refuses to honor Confederate Memorial Day, tries to distance itself from anything Southern, and apparently of late tries to consider itself more northern than Southern. Maybe there is a large majority of voters who have remained silent over the past few years as they have watched their heritage stripped from them in the name of PC

If Jones wants to fly his flag and speak of his ancestry, heck I say more power to him. Although he's in a party that doesn't hold the ideals of the old Democratic party(which became the Republican party), I've got to say he's got more gumption than most Southerners seem to have

"I do recall that in your 1985 campaign for lieutenant governor you advertised heavily on reruns of the 'Dukes of Hazzard,'"

I like this one, Billbears. Wilder thought it was ok to be associated withe CBF and DoH show in 1985, but now he can't be in the same party as Jones. Unbelievable.

'Ol Cooter is a pretty good guy for a Democrat. I enjoyed him on the talk shows during Monicagate.

I don't know how the guy is as a Democrat, although he's obviously not of the PC loony left.

But what I found most interesting about this story is how obscure it is. Isn't it clear to everyone that if a Republican candidate used the Confederate flag in such a way, then even if he had a "Dukes of Hazard" background or some other such excuse, he would be denounced in the New York Times and on network TV news.

And if his Democratic opponent were a black man, then Jesse Jackson would be given a national stage for ranting that all Republicans in the state and in the national leadership must denounce the Confederate-flyer, or else by their inaction prove their racism and insensitivity.

The relative dearth and temperance of such coverage is a prime example of bias by omission, the most common form of liberal bias in the U.S. press.

Cooter was the luckiest guy on earth, since he and Daisy Duke (with the impossibly short denims, oh yeah) were a couple. Back then, I was 18 and single and I wished I was Cooter.

But yeah, he was the guy who kept the General Lee running.

I live in the 7th Dist. of VA & I don't share your enthusiasm for a man using the Stars & Bars to garner votes.

Jones also flies the I LOVE TO RAISE TAXES flag.
I reckon he does have "gumption" if you define that as the ability to speak out of both sides of your mouth.

I like Ben Jones -- he was one of the few Democrats to call for Clinton's resignation during the Monica scandal, and he supported impeachment.
