Why I am no longer a Democrat (Janeane Garafalo's "up yours" to the Dems)

WHY I AM NO LONGER A DEMOCRAT

Over the past few years I have realized that, while the rule of law means a lot to me, it means very little to the Democratic Party. Three years ago, I was so disgusted with how they had protected Clinton that I left the Party. Then, late in 2000, I was so horrifed with their attempts to use the courts to change inconvenient state election laws that I decided to do whatever I could to keep them out of power. And to me, that meant doing the unthinkable-- I became a Republican. So in a way, it's nice to see the New Jersey Democrats confirm that, while my decision might have been hasty and rash, it wasn't wrong. This time control of the Senate is at stake and the "Party of the People" is yet again attempting to use a state supreme court loaded with Democrats to shamelessly keep themselves in power.

What kills me is that being a Democrat means never having to pay for a mistake. The New Jersey Democratic Party knew all about the allegations against Torricelli when they nominated him. On the last legal day to change the ballot, they gambled that they had a better chance with Torricelli than with anyone else. Now they suspect they were wrong and want the Court to rule that the Law is not what the legislature votes on and the governor signs. Apparently the Law is whatever suits the Democrats the best at any given moment. But this time, I doubt the US Supreme Court will stop it. Only the good people of New Jersey will be able to do that. They now seem to know a crook when they see one, so maybe there's hope.

Who knows. Maybe it's an urban legend.

I just looked at the site, and maybe I missed something, but I've yet to find where Ms. Garafalo identifies herself on here. Any assistance in finding that would be helpful here.

Jeaneane Garafalo IS an ass of note.

(Her posterior is also rather voluminous by Hollywood standards.)

I've got it noted on another thread. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/762350/posts)

I'll admit that all of this should be taken with an appropriate grain of salt, but I'll admit that it wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if this is true...

SOMEONE NEEDS TO EXPLAIN THIS:

Janeane Garofalo: Flag-Burning Chokes Me With Pride

Hollywood Investigator | July 30, 2002 | Marcus Rubyman

Posted on 07/30/2002 2:15 AM Pacific by Commie Basher

Funnygal Janeane Garofalo is "insulted" by Old Glory -- and "chokes with pride" when naked gays burn it! That was her shocking admission to L.A.'s hip & trendy Buzz magazine (which folded in 1998).

In a profile entitled "Don't Tread On Janeane," written by Trish Deitch Rohrer, Garofalo fumes: "Our country is founded on a sham: our forefathers were slave-owning rich white guys who wanted it their way. So when I see the American flag, I go, 'Oh my God, you're insulting me.' That you can have a gay parade on Christopher Street in New York, with naked men and women on a float cheering, 'We're here, we're queer!' -- that's what makes my heart swell. Not the flag, but a gay naked man or woman burning the flag. I get choked up with pride."

thread appears to be pretty misleading, since the celebrity author cited in the title had nothing to do with writing this piece

The 1998 time-frame fits within the time-frame of her "conversion" as alluded to in her writings. Is this her? I dunno. I would like to think so, but until independant confirmation, I'll take it with the appropriate grain of salt...

Well, this is more than surprising from Janeane. If true, then kudos to her for being an honest 'thinking', rational, freedom-loving Republican. . .

. . .wonderful to see people 'waking-up'. . .

Nothing to explain really. That IS Jeaneane Garafalo and her beliefs!

Shiloh Bucher is someone else entirely.

I'm sorry, you do no know that. This is a companion piece to another article I've posted where the writer is alleged to have written the piece.

So, try again.

If she wore white pants, you could show a movie on it.

I don't buy it but let me add that it may be worth the trip to the blogger's site to read other posters' tales of political conversion.

If Ms. Garafalo did change her party affiliation, then I'd gather that she's RINO and doing it to protest actions of the Rat party (but one of the reference articles in this thread has her identifying herself as being a fan of Bill Clinton even now (post 9/11) so I'd advise a hefty dose of salt).

Janeane Garafalo moved to Houston during her standup career to be a part of the "Texas Outlaw Comics" (the comedy club is a dry cleaners today. The comedians from that staff included Sam Kineson and Bill Hicks.

I'd place her among other 30-something post-modern cynics. She's too much of an avowed lib and feminist to be switching to conservatism. She may resent the Rat party and want to stick it to them on principle (at the same time, having the opportunity to vote in Republican primaries and dilute the conservative voting block) I think that she'd still be more likely to vote for the Green, Libertarian, or even Socialist candidate over the Republican candidate.

Perhaps at least some of the bloggers' tales of becoming Republican are true. As for me I am skeptical of this claim and find it fishy coming days after Barbra(sic) Streisand got shown up for falling for an internet hoax.

That actually would make sense. As I've said, in any event, if it isn't her, it's still a well written piece.

Hi Mhking;

I don't know if that her or not. There is that hint of Internet nonsense swirling around it. That texas edu email address being only a small check mark in the "it's not her column". That picture, while possibly resembling her, just doesn't strike me as legit.

Also, I saw her not long ago, and some of her comments didn't strike me as strident as the poster of that piece sounds.

However, you have found a good Mystery here!
