My wife and I were in DC a few years ago and visited our congressman at his office in the Rayburn House Office Building. He gave us tickets to the House and Senate galleries and then an intern took us down the hall, down the elevator and to the tram as it was called. After exiting the tram, which was a very short ride, we went upstairs and found ourselves inside the Capitol. This was a significant surprise as we had just an hour earlier given up on visiting the Capitol that day due to the tremendously long lines to get in. Theres also a very good café under the Capitol with very reasonable prices. And you never know who youre going to see there. We saw J.C.Watts with someone else we didnt recognize. I recommend it.

dittos- Rode the tram from the Capitol bldg. to the Hart/Russell bldgs. and found myself alone with Senator Craig Thomas (R) Idaho. Good way to get a conversation in one on one. Likewise you might be pleasantly surprised by whomever ends up sharing the tram with you.
I was attending the impeachment trial. The House managers brought into the Senate chamber, the two articles of impeachment. Surreal...
