You're presumably referring to the murder of Phoenix reporter Don Bolles via a carbomb left in Bolle's Datsun on 02 June, 1976.

There are indeed a number of creepy things still hiding beneath the rocks leftover from that case, smug in the thought that they've likely gotten away with murder, and breathing easier every time one of their pals from those days dies off.

Babbitt not only failed to investigate when he was AZ AG, but refered to the group as "an interesting piece of Americana" !?!
