[Senator] Specter asks probe of Iraq links to WTC-Okla. attacks

U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter is calling for a probe into allegations of a possible Iraqi connection between the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City six years earlier.

Specter said he has no plans to pursue the investigation himself, however, but has written to FBI Director Robert Mueller suggesting that the possible connection is worth pursuing.

Earlier this week, Daily News columnist Michael Smerconish wrote a column about the connection theory, which grew out of reports by Jayna Davis, a former television reporter from Oklahoma City who was one of the first on the scene of the Oklahoma bombing.

Davis has investigated early reports about a dark-haired accomplice to convicted Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh. The accomplice, identified in a drawing put out by the FBI as "John Doe No. 2," bares a resemblance to an ex-Iraqi soldier who lived in Oklahoma City, Davis learned. And the reporter subsequently came up with evidence indicating that Iraqi nationals were involved in the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building.

"I'm a little surprised that this hasn't gotten more attention, given that there is so much concern about whether Iraq has any connections anywhere," Specter said.

According to Smerconish, Davis has 80 pages of affidavits and 2,000 supporting documents to support her theory.

"Who knows?" said Specter, adding that he felt Davis' information should not be overlooked. His key assistant, Tom Swanton, drafted the letter to the FBI, which states that his staff had earlier contacted both the FBI and the Justice Department requesting a briefing on the issues raised by Davis' allegations, but they were rebuffed.

Specter plans to meet with Davis on Thursday.

Oops, sorry Utopia. My last post had my previous-to-last post attached at the bottom. Here's what I intended.....

I have no argument with you there, and I share your digust for the current state of gov't. But my point was that Bush's relunctance to connect OKC with Iraq because he doesn't want to hurt the Presidency (by imlicating Clinton) is a positional that's very detrimental to our national security (if that's in fact what he's doing). And considering that Clinton seems completely unconcerned about even the possibility of Bush letting the cat out of the bag leads one to wonder, as the Freeper Lancey Howard suggested above, what sort of dirt on Dubya the former scumbag-in-thief has in his own possession.

However, since GWB has so far shown himself to be a better sort of public figure than we've seen recently; I'm hoping that, without lifting the carpet himself, enough of the evidence will see daylight and enough noise will result, so that the lid will pop off 'by itself'.

And that will happen more easily -- and may only be possible -- if those who want to bring out the evidence are allowed to do so.

Standing at attention in Group Two!

Falling in beside you.

For anyone undecided, the linked interview with the ex-wife of OKCPD Officer Terry Yeakey may help. It reveals how far the Clinton Administration and DOJ were prepared to go to conceal the cover up. It is difficult for me to understand how any one can listen to the words of Tonia Yeakey and not want justice for all.

First OKCPD Officer in Murrah Building Murdered, Throat Cut, Body Dragged with Rope

Terry Yeakey was a true American hero, by every definition of the term. Americans should know his story.

And what if Clinton was guilty of not only ordering an OKC coverup, but responsible in some degree for the bombing itself?

In my opinion, Clinton will never be held responsible for his role, regardless.

Curt Weldon is my congressman too and on the foreign relations committee. He is one who will get involved if proded, he is very serious about National Security issues ( and a friend to vets). The meeting with Specter is going to be on Thursday and Michael Smerconish will be broadcasting it live (I believe). So tune into 1210 AM on Thursday at 3:00PM and we all might be pleasantly surprised.

very good -

Doesn't anyone remember - wasn't anyone listening to the news back when OKC happened?

for the first two days, they/we were all looking for the mid-easterners who blew up OKC. They had a brown pick-up truck.

Then all of a sudden, about 2 1/2 days later, comes the announcement that they found the bomber, already in custody for something else, and it was not a mid-easterner, it was Tim McVeigh?

DOESN'T ANYONE REMEMBER ????

BRING BACK OKCsubmariner.

If 'group one' actually got trials for those responsible (at the bottom end - the bomb throwers) it would be literally impossible to stop 'group two' from getting their way as well: cat being out of the bag and all.

That is precisely why I also said that GWB just might be looking the other way while this discussion, which has gone on for years on FR, bubbles into the general public.

You will note that regardless of the aims of those doing the talking, they are not at this time being accused of evil intent, lunacy, or lack of honor. Compare that with a few years ago, compare that to TWA 800. No one is being called a racist either, compare that to all the 'don't profile' crap that has been flooding the media.

Flame- I second your statement "A token bump for OKCSubmariner's persistance even in his absense from this forum.".

Brian-Indeed it would be an Oct surprise that surpasses all others. It would demonstrate, I believe, how Reno's justice dept kept the FBI office which refused all pertinent info on the 2nd john doe from surfacing (the office located in Denver which refused the affidavits the reporter wished to give to the FBI in Okla.) There is really something huge here-and it would be miraculous if a true investigation were to ensue.

You are correct. That is why I am not optimistic about anyone other than Nichols and McVeigh being prosecuted. I am cautious about putting any hopes on Specter. We shall see.

Well said. If the voices such as Mr. Briley are silenced I sincerely fear for the future of this nation.

Rep. Curt Weldon is indeed the man to get involved here.
Do you know if Michael Smerconish's radio program is also ineractive with CNN-Cable at 3-4PM.......or was that just a trial show?
