[Senator] Specter asks probe of Iraq links to WTC-Okla. attacks

U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter is calling for a probe into allegations of a possible Iraqi connection between the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City six years earlier.

Specter said he has no plans to pursue the investigation himself, however, but has written to FBI Director Robert Mueller suggesting that the possible connection is worth pursuing.

Earlier this week, Daily News columnist Michael Smerconish wrote a column about the connection theory, which grew out of reports by Jayna Davis, a former television reporter from Oklahoma City who was one of the first on the scene of the Oklahoma bombing.

Davis has investigated early reports about a dark-haired accomplice to convicted Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh. The accomplice, identified in a drawing put out by the FBI as "John Doe No. 2," bares a resemblance to an ex-Iraqi soldier who lived in Oklahoma City, Davis learned. And the reporter subsequently came up with evidence indicating that Iraqi nationals were involved in the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building.

"I'm a little surprised that this hasn't gotten more attention, given that there is so much concern about whether Iraq has any connections anywhere," Specter said.

According to Smerconish, Davis has 80 pages of affidavits and 2,000 supporting documents to support her theory.

"Who knows?" said Specter, adding that he felt Davis' information should not be overlooked. His key assistant, Tom Swanton, drafted the letter to the FBI, which states that his staff had earlier contacted both the FBI and the Justice Department requesting a briefing on the issues raised by Davis' allegations, but they were rebuffed.

Specter plans to meet with Davis on Thursday.

A token bump for OKCSubmariner's persistance even in his absense from this forum.

Did you see Tony Snow on Fox News about 45 minutes ago? They discussed the case and all about the 20 something witnesses who claim they saw John Doe #2. Wouldn't it be something if all this came out about how the Mid-East connection was covered up and instead the bombing was used to go after talk raido and the right wing...

Talk about an October surprise...

BTTT

Who would have thought that it would be Senator "Scottish Law" "single bullet" Specter to be the one? Good for him.

You and me both, Arlen. And I'm also surprised that we haven't been playing up Saddam's connections to al Qaeda and 9/11.

I'll bet that letter winds up in the trashcan half-read. I appreciate the effort from Specter, but getting the FBI to investigate this would be like getting the fox to investigate disappearances from the henhouse. Even if the FBI were ordered to investigate, they would sit on it for years, then claim they couldn't find anything.

You said it -- this is wonderful news, so far. I only saw the mention of the Snow coverager before my wife turned off the TV. She said why watch it, you already know about it.

"Who knows?" said Specter, adding that he felt Davis' information should not be overlooked."

Yeah, "who knows?" Maybe Specter and the rest of the corrupt fools in Washington will ask the FBI why, if this information is so important, the FBI refused to take the information from Davis in the first place. Or maybe not. Maybe they're too stupid to ask. And maybe, just maybe, the information has already been "overlooked" by the FBI and the rest of the Clinton toads in government.

What the idiot will not ask, however, is why the information was "overlooked" or refused in the first place. That would make the FBI uncomfortable. That would tend to support the theory that they didn't want to know about the terrorists and that they were protecting them.

"I'm a little surprised that this hasn't gotten more attention, given that there is so much concern about whether Iraq has any connections anywhere,"

Clinton didn't do anything about all the other attacks on Americans, why should he care about the OKC? Heck, it was a great chance to blame gun owners and right wing radio. A few easy political points - that was more important.
*sigh* Time to get to work and do Clintons job for him - again.
I'm not suprised the Bush Administration sealed the Clinton records. Clinton was probably in on the attacks so he could re-build America into a new socialist society , and if America knew what Clinton had done, all faith in the American presidency would be gone.

The Clinton administration covered up much of this information.

Soon the connections will become obvious.

Clinton is a coward and is the American equivalent to Nero.......but he didn't fiddle.......he diddled!

Meuller will have a tougher time ignoring this now. Fox News is not blown off easilly. And now a senator respected by both parties [albeit grudgingly respected] with experience as a prosecuter, is publicly calling on the FBI to investigate. This all might sound calm and quiet. Perhaps it will remain that way. But I'd take a longshot bet on this at 1-4 odds that it has legs.

I know...I just learned about it too...pretty pisseed off. There are only a few cases where I don't like a banning, and this is one of them.

Yeah, thats the ticket when someone actually addresses the issue that we here have wanted to be looked into for yrs. we don't say "good" but proceed to piss all over them.

Little wonder "conservatives" find it difficult to expand the conservative movement. They are too busy looking for reasons not to welcome allies preferring to stab them in the back or attack their motives.

Oh, but I forgot reactionaries are not conservatives.

I hope this pans out. We need answers to a lot of unanswered questions.

My parents figured that this whole thing was a bunch of tinfoil hat nonsense until they saw a show about this on the Discovery Channel about a year ago. I don't remember exactly what show it was, but I'd sure like to see it again and record it. The show talked about a guy who was helping at the scene but later wound up dead and was put on the official list of those killed in the bombing. It also talked about the John Doe #2 that eyewitnesses saw, yet the FBI dismissed with the wave of a hand.
