Okay, mystery cleared up. The FOX map lists the first killing (55-year-old man at grocery) as #1, while the CNN map lists the Michael's window shooting as #1. The #9 on the CNN map is the 13-year-old boy shot outside the school in Bowie, not the latest shooting at the Sunoco station in Manassas.
So CNN isn't off, it's just the numbering is different from the FOX map we're all used to. Because of the FOX map, I assumed the CNN map's #9 was supposed to be the Manassas shooting. Well, we all know what happens when we assume. :)
