Yes, these are always horrific accidents. When I heard the first reports this morning, it didn't mention the fog, just that the interstate had been shut down due to a southbound accident, with the northbound lane closing due to rubbernecking accidents.
We had a similar accident in Green Bay about 10 years ago up on the Tower Drive bridge which had a few fatalities and a major pile-up. This one is being described as the worst of its' kind ever in Wisconsin.

Boy, I remember that Tower Drive bridge accident! I remember a couple of vehicles piled up on others, with a few hanging over the bridge, about 75-100 feet up. If my memory serves me right, it was caused by a white truck (I'm thinking it was garbage truck of some sort) slowing down when he hit the pea soup fog, and it started a chain reaction that piled up cars down to the base of the bridge/entrance near Bay Beach.
