How about this one: in 1992, at the tender age of 47, I had a heart attack during a treadmill test. I was all hooked up to the EKG monitors, etc.

I kept telling the doctor and the nurse that I didn't feel well - felt clammy, heaviness in my arms, but at that point, no severe chest pain - YET. Doc said I was doing great, and INCREASED the speed and elevation of the treadmill.

To make a long story short, half an hour later, I was defibrillated TWICE in the ambulance by the EMTs (my heroes).

I've often wondered, if I'd been a 47-year old male, the doctor would have acknowledged my distress and stopped the test. To make a long story short, I

3 things in life NOT two are certain:

Death, taxes and Dr bills.

When it comes to Dr.s I show my diversity.
I have a black female podiatrist
a male Japanese diabetic
a Cherokee female GP
a male coonass dietitian
a white male senior citizen neurologist
and a white middle aged male cardiologist

What in the world was a man that age having that procedure? At a certain point, one is going to die soon.

I take it he had the exam because he was convinced that a person his age ought to have one. A consent form does not relieve the doc of responsibility, protect him from the risk that comes with making mistakes.

It doesn't require a GI guy to do the test. It is read by a radiologist.

The down side is that if a polyp is found, you have to have a full scoping to remove it. You end up paying for two procedures to get one result.

in post 92:
"Could you perhaps provide some links to studies supporting such a claim?"

I am feeling a tad sheepish. I saw 2 or 3 articles about these statistics somewhere 1 to 3 years ago, and now I can not find a reference anywhere.

"I had a heart attack during a treadmill test. I was all hooked up to the EKG monitors, etc. "

I have seen those sort of tests, though have not participated in one.

Generally there is a doctor present in case an event happens. Some of the stats typically get quite elevated and that is why a physician is usually present, just in case. I cannot understand how yours got so out of control.

There was a doctor present, as well as a nurse.

The EKG wasn't showing any abnormal activity. I've since seen articles that EKGs aren't all that accurate in women because of breast tissue (I'm not exactly in Dolly Parton territory).

Also, there were no known risk factors, i.e., no family history, non-smoker, physically active, not overweight, and in otherwise excellent health.

I agree with posters #3 & #4, they're offering good advice.

Find out if this MD has been sued before. If so, do your best to get him to change jobs before he kills someone. Protecting others is a noble reason for a suit, in my opinion.

My husband hemorrhaged after having 2 polyps removed during a colonoscopy. It was several days after the procedure and it likely happened because he took an aspirin before he was supposed to. I called an ambulance because he fainted and I was afraid I could not get him into the car. He spent the night in the hospital but did not need a transfusion.

I had a colonoscopy today due to some bleeding I experienced a few weeks ago it was my second and the first went fine I didnt remember a thing this was was not fine . The doctor obviously rushed the process nodoubt wanted to be playing golf instead when I arrived at the hospital a half hour early we I went through admitting and they sent me to the short stay unit and I went through all the normal stuff but it appeared that atleast 5 others were there to get the same procedure from the same doctor and we were all scheduled for 9:30 I was third in line and the procedure was over by 8:30 seems rushed doesnt it ? I have further proof because I woke up during the procedure with extremely sharp pains I was told before hand and not by the doctor but the nurses if it was painful at any point to tell them they would STOP and give me more meds this is not what happened instead I was held down told its almost over and that it was normal I can handle it everything is fine well geuss what its not fine . I had no soreness the first time and I didnt remember a thing I remember this as clear as can be and I am not happy as far as i’m concerned it was equivlant to rape I was instructed to tell them of the pain and specifically told they would stop I remember very clearing telling them to stop even after they tried to explain why it hurt and when they said it was ok I said no its not it hurts to much and I was held down this is rape in my book I know there is nothing I can do about it but people need to be careful I will be making a complaint and people my self included need to do more research on these yahoos before hand i’m sure if I look I will find this has happened to others i’m not sure what to do about it but I have had nightmares about it and its just not very cool if I was told I would be held down and they would have kept going maybe I would have kept the appointment maybe not but I was told just the opposite I was told to specifically tell them and they told me they would stop .I feal like I have been raped how could I not !

Is there such a thing as a Colonoscopy gone "good?" Spare us the pervert jokes.

I have a fine doctor and a good man for my physician....., and haven't seen him in over 5 years. You need them when you are SICK, not when you are well. This idea of "preventive maintenance" for people who are healthy is----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am sorry, but this is slnk_rule's wife. It appears he keeled over and died of a heart attack in the middle of writing this post. I know you all will miss him. I will, too...., at least until I get the life insurance check.
