Democrat Leads in Pa. Gov. Race

The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Edward G. Rendell has an 18-point lead over Republican Mike Fisher among likely voters in next month's election, according to a poll released Monday.

Rendell, the former mayor of Philadelphia, was the choice of 49 percent of the 565 registered voters surveyed by West Chester University on behalf of WCAU-TV in Philadelphia. Fisher, the state attorney general, was favored by 31 percent, with 20 percent of voters undecided, the poll said.

The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.

Other recent polls have given Rendell leads of 14 or 15 percentage points over Fisher.

Fisher campaign spokesman Kevin Harley dismissed the results, saying the campaign's own polling shows Rendell only nine points ahead.

"As voters continue to hear Mike Fisher's message of lower taxes and educational opportunities, he will win this race," Harley said.

Rendell spokesman Dan Fee said the results are "further proof that voters are responding to Ed's positive message that focused on revitalizing our economy and improving our education system."

According to the poll, voters said Rendell would do a better job handling education and reducing property taxes, and has better plans for gun control, health care and creating jobs.

Voters cited taxes as the single most important issue that would determine their choice in the election.

The telephone survey was conducted randomly between Wednesday and Sunday by the university's Center for Social and Economic Research.

bump

Fisher and Rendell debated tonight in Wilkes-Barre. If anyone attended, please let us know your reaction.

I'll be going to their debate in Easton at the State Theater this Sunday, 10/20.

These governor races and US senate races are very close nationwide. If you are a Republican or conservative and don't want to live under Democrat tax, spend, pro-abortion, anti-gun, etc. policies, get off your butts now and give money and help candidates you do trust enough to govern.

It will be Rendell in a landslide.
Another case of the Republicans putting up a boring, charisma-challenged party loyalist because it was "his turn".
This one's over.

It will be Rendell in a landslide.

I personally know people that will vote for Rendell, and they lead a very conservative lifestyle. It's frustrating!

I've been all over the Commonwealth in the past two weeks (Philadelphia, Harrisburg (home), Pittsburgh, Erie, State College and Hazelton), heard the Fisher ads everywhere and can't beleive that he's losing. Fisher is running the perfect Republican campaign, but lacks the personality to overcome the Rendell Teddy Bear factor.

It looks like Pennsylvania will continue the "eight is enough tradition." Since 1954, the GOP and the 'RATS have exchanged the governor's mansion every eight years. This year is no exception. Too bad Robert Casey, Jr. lost to Rendell in primary. The tracking polls indict Rendell shall win by at least 15 points. Will the Rendall campaign help the 'RATS win the General Assembly?

I was in a neighborhood today, The Greens of Waynesborough, where the smaller colonials begin at about $600,000. There, on somebody's front lawn, was a 'Rendell for Governor' sign. These fools probably walk around with paper "kick me" signs taped to their backs, too. Signs that they put there themselves. But the most disgusting part about scumbags like this is that what they are saying by putting a Rendell sign on their front lawn is, "Hey neighbors! We are voting Democrat so that big government confiscates more of YOUR money. Ain't we nice neighbors?"

Another case of the Republicans putting up a boring, charisma-challenged party loyalist because it was "his turn"...The most disgusting thing about this poll is that in a theoretical run between Rendell and current Gov. Schweiker (sp?), Schweiker wipes the floor with Rendell, 58% to 41% - I think I remember that Schweiker originally said he wouldn't run, then changed his mind but was told it was Fisher's turn, and so bowed out of the race for good...Republicans really are pathetic creatures at times.....
