Delivering a Touch of Home

.

.

A Touch of Home

.

This is how I think of the USO Canteen
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.

Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor,
a library, etc.

Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they
served.

This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

Snow Bunny

.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank
them.

Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.

We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper
Style, are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.

So, to the men and women who answered the call,
in both times of war and peace, thank you.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

John McCrae

Let Eagles Soar
The Eagle Responds to Terrorism

As a young nation, the United States soon
developed symbols that stood for America
and its freedoms

Some of them were historic buildings and
landmarks, like Independence Hall.
Others were images that took on special meaning,
like the American eagle.

"You have seen what I have done to the Egyptians;
and now I have taken you up as on the wings of
eagles and brought you to Myself." – Exodus 19:4

Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God

The bald eagle is the
national symbol of the
United States of America

On June 20, 1782, the eagle was selected
for its long life, majesty, and strength as
the national emblem of a fledgling collection
of states that had just won their independance.

Eagles represent freedom

At one of the first battles of the Revolution,
early in the morning, the noise of the battle
awoke the eagles. The eagles flew from their
nests and circling and crying out over the heads
of the men that were fighting.

"They are shrieking for Freedom," said the patriots.

This detailed work of original art is a
salute to the great people, places and
events that have helped to shape our heritage.

Approximately 150 illustrations
Captured on this Patriotic Art Piece

“ Enduring Freedom” is a lesson in the humanities
and arts which effectively captures the people,
events and places that have helped to mold America
over the last four centuries and have shaped the
country we share today.

Throughout history, opposing ideologies have
confronted each other with our lives hanging in
the balance and the outcome affecting us all.

The United States against other nations,
Ulysses S. Grant against Robert E.Lee,
George Custer against Chief Sitting Bull,
Matrin Luther King, NASA against gravity,
John Wayne (The Duke) against all evil, and
even Marylin Monroe.

You can find various other historic people and
images such as Elvis Presley (The King of Rock)
Cesar Chavez above the Golden Gate or Dale
Earnhardt's vehicle. All this and more are
beautifully detailed in this unique artwork.

In order to honor the victims and heroes
from America's recent tragedies, the World
Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon
in Washington DC are featured in all of their
original glory. If you look directly below the
images of the World Trade Center, you will find
Mayor Rudy Juliani's baseball cap.

Find the flag with E Pluribus Unum on it
and learn the meaning "Of one comes many,"
the United States motto printed on every coin.
Find the Pledge of Allegiance amidst the eagles.
Identify famous sites, cities and national monuments
visited by your family in treasured times past or
planned for future vacations.

Detail within this unique Patriotic collage is
such that the Preamble to the Constitution,
Gettysburg Address, and inscriptions on the
Golden Spike connecting the Central Pacific
and Union Pacific railroads are accurate under
magnification and extends to the astronauts
and Sharon "Christa" McAuliffe being
remembered next to the Challenger space shuttle.

FREEDOM FLIES IN YOUR HEART
~Audie Murphy~

LIKE AN EAGLE Dusty old helmet, rusty old gun,
They sit in the corner and wait -
Two souvenirs of the Second World War
That have withstood the time, and the hate.
Mute witness to a time of much trouble.
Where kill or be killed was the law -
Were these implements used with high honor?
What was the glory they saw?
Many times I've wanted to ask them -
And now that we're here all alone,
Relics all three of a long ago war -
Where has freedom gone?
Freedom flies in your heart like an eagle.
Let it soar with the winds high above
Among the spirits of soldiers now sleeping,
Guard it with care and with love.
I salute my old friends in the corner,
I agree with all they have said -
And if the moment of truth comes tomorrow,
I'll be free, or By God, I'll be dead!

Tribute To HEROES

.

While the dogtag is used to provide information on an individual serviceman,
I also believe that the chain which holds them represents a connection to all
servicemen, no matter where you served, how you served or when you served.

.

The Minuteman in 1776 has a connection to the soldier fighting in Afghanistan today.
That connection is every individual who has ever served in the United States Military.

Each of us represents a link in the chain that connects that Minuteman of
over 200 years ago to the soldier in Afghanistan today.

The great intangible of America's wars beyond logistics,
beyond strategy, beyond wonder weapons and Generals,
is the spiritual force of its fighting men and women -
and that is the force that the USO so serves.

It is like a cottage down a road, a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.

Sounds all too good and peaceful to me. Is there a lake there, where we can throw a lure in the water and ketch some fish? Or maybe in the Autumn, a lot of hardwoods, where we can hunt some squirrels or some deer?

Hi Fly Vet, that sure does sound good. I would love to live in a cabin in the woods by a lake. I think about it a lot.
Good to see you my friend.
