A woman was killed with a single gunshot to the head at 9:15 last night at a Fairfax County, Virginia shopping mall and police are treating the crime as likely connected to the Beltway killer. There are differences in this crime because there was no immediate access to a highway. Early reports indicate it may have been in a parking garage. Police have issued a BOLO for a cream colored Astrovan with a missing tail light and a ladder on top.

One more speculation. Does the DC area have the "light changer" devices on the traffic signals? The ones used by emergency and rescue vehicles to change the light to green so they get continuous green lights?

There has been some trouble in other areas of the country where some geeks have either built their own "black box" or got their hands on one - just so they can have convenience in their commute. Well - couldn't these guys have one of those? It sure would make getaways a lot easier - no being hung up on long red lights if they can turn them green at need.

Michael's Stores, Inc. (3 shootings) and Exxon/Mobil (2 shootings) corporate headquarters in Irving, Texas. I don't know if it's relevant.

Heard this email on the radio this morning, I edited it a little bit, enjoy:

Peaceniks and the Sniper: A Great E-Mail

After listening to reports on the sniper, I can't help but wonder where the peace-lovers are. After being so vocal about the war on Iraq, I can't believe we haven't heard from them yet. So, I guess it's up to me to speak for the whole group. I'll break it down to 3 key points:

1. Why are we being so aggressive? I think we should wait and get world support before acting against this guy. I mean, we don't KNOW that he's going to attack again ...... do we? We shouldn't act until we know an attack is "imminent."

2. I heard that the police set up road blocks last night and are looking for a cream colored van. I hope they're not planning to pull over every cream colored van and search it ....... that would be profiling! I mean, is it fair to all of the innocent people out there driving cream colored vans to be pulled over and searched? It offends me just to think of the injustice!

3. Lastly, when we do find the sniper, I don't think we should be using force to stop him. I believe we should just send inspectors over to his house and make sure he doesn't have any bullets for his gun. Because THEN we would be safe right? INSPECTIONS, NOT FORCE! INSPECTIONS, NOT FORCE!

My dumb question for the day. Lets say that authorities are unable to capture the perp anytime soon and fatalities continue to occur at the rate we are seeing now. How difficult or even plausible would it be to erect barriers in front of high traffic storefronts or locations where people are vulnerable by having to spend at least some time outside of their car standing still? I'm not talking something to necessarily stop a bullet from penetrating, but rather something to take store patrons out of the line of sight.
