Say it ain't so. I always thought he was one of the most classy athletes ever to play baseball.
I really hope this is a case of some nutball trying to extort money from him. It's happened many times, even to scumbags like Michael Irvin.

He has had a few problems recently, hitting women, opening doors with chainsaws and some other stuff. If he is guilty I wouldn't be surprised. And yes I do live in Twin Cities area.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Baseball Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett was charged Friday with felony and misdemeanor counts for an alleged sexual assault at a restaurant last month.
Hennepin County prosecutors allege that Puckett dragged a woman into the men's restroom at the Redstone American Grill on Sept. 6 and fondled her breast before she escaped.
Puckett was charged with one count of false imprisonment, a felony, and one count of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct, a gross misdemeanor.
Sounds like this one will be easy to prove/disprove as it happened in a public place.

Kirby Puckett charged with sexual assault
Staff and wire reports
Associated Press
Published Oct 18, 2002 KIRB19
Former Minnesota Twins Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett was charged Friday with felony and misdemeanor counts in connection with an alleged sexual assault at an Eden Prairie restaurant last month.
On Sept. 20, an attorney for Puckett vigorously denied he had sexually assaulted a woman at the Redstone restaurant, 8000 Eden Dr.
A woman alleged she was assaulted about 1 a.m. on Sept. 6. According to a transcript of the 34-year-old woman's 911 call from Redstone, a dispatcher asked her whether she had been raped.
She said, "No, he tried to, but my girlfriend saved me."
The names of the man and woman were edited out of the transcript.
Police Chief Jim Clark wouldn't identify the suspect at the time as Puckett, because he wasn't arrested. He said the suspect's attorney declined to let police talk to his client.
Puckett's lawyer, B. Todd Jones, a former U.S. attorney for Minnesota, said last month that the woman's claim about being assaulted in the men's room "is only an accusation, and we think it is not credible. . . . This is a denial that anything inappropriate happened."
Jones said the incident stemmed from Puckett's "celebrity status, a nasty divorce, with all the subplots it involves and, in a crowded public venue, somebody deciding to raise these allegations," he said. "He can't even go to the bathroom without something happening."
Puckett and his wife, Tonya, reached a divorce settlement "in principle" last week, their lawyers.
Tonya Puckett filed for divorce in February, about two months after she told police that her husband had threatened to kill her after she talked with him about his alleged infidelity, according to police records. Kirby Puckett denied making such a threat. City and county attorneys declined to charge him.
A St. Louis Park woman later filed for an order of protection against Puckett, but the request was dropped before a judge ruled on it.

From an
online article last year:
"Kirby Puckett is a role model. Kirby Puckett also had his career ended prematurely, but Kirby Puckett was a nice guy. Kirby Puckett is the kind of role model kids should have. "
I hate it when stuff like this happens.

Jerome Bettis (Steelers), always considered a good citizen, just had this kind of episode end. He was accused of sexual assault in private (his car) but not charged. Turns out the woman and her uncle had planned this scam -- the uncle actually talked about such a thing in a class he teaches at a local PSU branch campus.
Bettis has instructed his lawyer to look into suing the woman after the season.
This is one of those cases where you hope the charges aren't true. But it happened on September 6th, and they didn't charge him until the Twins were eliminated. That indicates to me that it's pretty serious.

Let's have the character to indulge Kirby Puckett who has always seemed the very epitome of the admirable athlete and thoroughgoing gentleman when such qualities are rare. I think this may be an exaple of what used to be called "the old badger game." Conveniently, the complainant's girlfriend was right near by to "save" her from a touching that would have left no objective evidence.
When these charges are dismissed or Kirby is found not guilty, let us have the class not to complain that either resulted from his celebrity. The result will be produced by his innocence.

I feel the same way you do. I hated that the glaucoma forced him to retire early. He was entered into the Hall of Fame just a few years ago, right? (can't remember what year). I remember it was him and Dave Winfield.

Also, didn't Kirby retire from baseball verrrrry reluctantly because of a detached retina? Why would he engage in behavior that might well get his face slapped hard? This makes no sense.
