Condit Kids Clobber Cardoza

Rep. Gary Condit, who will be ousted from the House due to his loss in the Democratic primary to Dennis Cardoza, is getting his kids to exact his revenge.

Party control of the House be damned, Condit is apparently so incensed with his fellow Democrat for running against him that he had his son Chad and daughter Cadee send out a nasty letter pleading with voters to cast their ballots for Republican Dick Monteith.

According to Page Six, the letter, addressed to "Friends, Neighbors and Fellow Democrats," blasts Cardoza in the same style that the Condit kids once criticized the media for using.

Of Cardoza's claim that he wants to undo the damage done to his district by the Chandra Levy/Condit fiasco, the kids write:

"This is from a man that had numerous allegations of sexual harassment during his tenure as the owner of that strip club. This is from a man [who] fired a woman for breast-feeding during her lunch break. This is from a man that according to sources filed [for] bankruptcy and has been accused of laundering campaign money."

A postscript states: "Both our grandfathers served in the U.S. Navy. Don't dishonor their service and the service of thousands of other veterans. Vote against Dennis Cardoza."

A spokesman for the Cardoza campaign was disappointed, but, echoing the mantra of many Democrats in the post-Clinton era, said, "It's time to move on."

Condit's children spend $5,250 to urge vote against Cardoza

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON(AP) - U.S. Rep. Gary Condit's children spent $5,250 on postage for a letter urging people to vote against Dennis Cardoza, who defeated Condit in the March primary.

Chad and Cadee Condit detailed their spending in reports, made public Monday, to the Federal Election Commission. The mailing to voters in the 18th Congressional District was an independent expenditure, which means it was done independent of any candidate for office. State Sen. Richard Monteith, R-Modesto, is running against Cardoza.

The letter called Cardoza an opportunist who betrayed Condit, for whom Cardoza once worked.

The congressman's children described themselves as consultants and listed their address in Ceres, Calif., at the home of their parents. Both worked for Gov. Gray Davis until he criticized Condit for not being forthcoming about his relationship with Chandra Levy, the former federal intern whose remains were found in Washington in May more than a year after she disappeared.

Cardoza, a Democratic Assemblyman from Atwater, initially said he wouldn't run against his friend. But he entered the congressional race after Condit became embroiled in the Levy scandal. Condit, 54, reportedly told police he had an affair with the 24-year-old former federal intern.

Police are continuing to search for her killer, but Condit has never been named a suspect.
